Re: The Return of Terrible Kickers?!

I agree Jalen, GOOD D1 programs, top 50 type good have inconsistent and sometime flat out bad kickers. Arkansas has been saddled with one for the last three seasons, hell until this year he couldn't even keep the ball on the field on kickoffs! Pretty sure I saw Alabama(or Georgia)'s kicker miss a couple of chip-shot type kicks in big games last season and in the Liberty Bowl, ECU's kicker missed three or four FGs.

I would rather have it like it is now than to have every 1* kicker be MONEY and kicking 60+ yarders every game.

Re: The Return of Terrible Kickers?!

Again, there is a difference between kickers missing field goals and being UNABLE to make a field goal due to having a weak leg.

Find me these D-1 kickers who do not have the leg power to make a 35 yd FG and then maybe you would have a point. I have not seen them.

Every kicker needs to have a base kick power if they are going to get a spot on a D-1 football team. All of the statistical arguments center around making field goals in a game.

If you want walk-ons to have low Kick Accuracy, then I don't think anyone would disagree with you.

If you want walk-ons to have the Kick Power of an 8th grader as currently exists within this game, then obviously something is wrong with you.

There are plenty of bad football players in D-1 programs, but nothing like the level of ineptitude and uselessness that we see in NCAA 11.

North Texas - 44% beyond 30
Memphis - 44% beyond 30
Cal - 33% beyond 30
Illinois - 16% beyond 30

That's just a few, which was my point to begin with... Not EVERY kicker in Div 1 can reliably hit from 35, which is what a previous poster posted. .

So your right... the numbers don't lie.

As for the problems with the kickers in the game.. thats an issue with walkon's in general... they all suck. People complained and complained about walkon's being to good in the past, now they are complaining because they are to bad. EA obviously doesn't understand "middle ground", instead of nerfing walkon's, they killed em.
First off, beyond 30? Ya your right a number of these teams do hit at a lower % when it gets to 40-49. That's pretty much a givin.

penn state 3-5 from 30-39
cal...deff struggled from long range. Also hit a 51 yarder...
memphis 2-3 from 30-39... again yes they don't hit so well from 40+ but they can.
Illinois 4-6 from 30-39. 2-4 from 40-49. Much better than 16% so apparently the numbers dont lie but you do...

What was your original statement...

"Most can, but there are plenty who are lucky to hit 50% from 25 or longer".

All the teams you stated hit better than than 50% from 30-39....
except for CAL and ASU. So you found 2 out of 120. Ya that sure sounds like plenty.....

Btw if your going to claim that they are lucky to hit from 25+ you might want to state why. But, giving that you made an incorrect statement to begin with, I'm not surprised you provided no evidence or explanation as to why.

Nice try though.

I agree that FG accuracy is a legitimate issue for a good portion of D-1 schools. But if you're going to sit here and say that 1/4 of D-1 schools can't find a kicker who has the leg to make a 35 yd FG then I'm not buying it.

If all you need is 45 KPW to make a D-1 football team, then every kid in America with a slight interest in football would be trying out for the position. Most high school kickers I've seen have the leg power to make a 35 yard FG.
You are exactly right man. The other dude is arguing the wrong thing.

Re: The Return of Terrible Kickers?!

I agree with the problem stated.

I'm playing as Texas, and my punter graduated and kicker left early for the draft (weird).

I recruited a 1 star punter rated 48 overall and a walk on kicker.

The top rated kicker is 3 star recruit (70 something overall probably) and most everyone else is 1 star. There are also few kickers to choose from.

I don't know if in real life most kickers are walk ons, but better schools should be able to bring in a kicker who is close to 70 overall their freshman year and have them progress to be an 80 or so

Re: The Return of Terrible Kickers?!

the thing with RL walk-on kickers, is the guy might be someone who only played soccer at high school and wasn't good enough to make a career out of playing the sport, but they may have a powerful leg. essentially this type of walk-on kicker is a total wildcard, he may go the way of a typical walk-on and not be very good, but there is the (small) chance he may turn out to be a great kicker, and with NCAA FB, there is no possibility of walk-on kickers being a total diamond in the rough.

This is not necessarily a 100% accurate statement.
