Re: A roadmap is requested: How to build up a small school to a powerhouse!

I just started one with MTSU since that's where I teach, and am currently 3-0.

So far, here's what I'm thinking strategy wise.

1) Identify no more than 10-15 serious targets.
2) Make all but 2-3 of them two stars. You'll have to make do with mostly one-star players until you build your reputation and your pitches up.
3) Target 1-2 players in the 3 star range if they're in your pipeline. Be prepared to drop those players if you don't see an increase in their interest in the first several weeks.
4) Max your calls, even for the one stars so you make sure you lock in a sufficiently large class.
5) Make promises you know you can keep. I usually go with no redshirting and solid playing time since I can pretty much guarantee those.
6) During the ensuing season, do everything you can to up the credibility of another pitch, like beating all your rivals.

That's my plan so far, and I'm thinking that in the first class I can nab 1-3 two star players and maybe, just maybe a three star player. But I think it's best to be realistic and know that you're really going to be looking at one star players for a while.

Reading through this thread has me pumped to do my first ever 1 star dynasty team. I always just go with Texas and dominate recruiting right away, but I'm really learning some good tips and am very excited to actually recruit for a small school.

Hopefully once I start, I can stick with it.

There is a lot of great information in this thread. I think I might have to do an FAU dynasty and see how far I can get.

It's honestly the most fun this way. It's the sense of achievement you get that you just don't get with big schools.

Sure you'll probably take a big job eventually but I always remember my 1 star dynasty's most fondly.

UMass, Run Heavy, 3-3-5 and recruit my face off. I used to use them on ps2 it was definitely some of the best dynasties for me. I'd always land a 4 star CB or Safety in year one and build my defense around them. The key is going for the top players with low interest (red bars) with all top 10 teams, offer first and promise the world to them.

My recruiting philosophy to a T. Also, I always switch to a 3-3-5 defense. My favorite defense because you never know where the blitz is coming from. Whoever I pick, I am usually in the top 10 in the nation in sacks.

In NCAA 12 using Idaho with recruiting on All-American, using that tactic I land two-three 4 stars and mostly 3 stars.

On PS2 as UMass I think it was NCAA 04' I landed a 6'1 225lbs 4-star strong safety named Rob Manson who turned out to be a 81 OVR Freshman. Ended up a 95 OVR his senior season. Probably the best year 1 recruit i've had for building up a FCS/1 Star school
