Kick Returns...My player dives every time, what am I doing wrong?

First off, the defenders aren't even close to coming near the ball, but my players still dive at the ball. I am on PS3....What am I doing wrong? Am I holding down like a R1 or L1 button and not realizing it, thus it makes them dive. No matter what I try if the ball isn't directly kicked to them, they always dive instead of picking up the ball. I even think I have control of the player too, but they still dive.

This and if the ball is near the sidelines, they try to go after the ball instead of letting it go outta bounds...Thus I always get horrible field position.

Is your opponent squib kicking? Sometimes I see them dive on a bouncing ball. Otherwise, I have not seen that.
