Re: Keeping your Dynasty fresh

Here are some ways to make your dynasty stay fresh:

A: Tracking the players in my Belltown High School Dynasty when they head to college

B: Making relatives of certain stars

For Example:
QB Corey Manziel (Starter at Texas A&M, cousin of Johnny Football)
QB Zach Gardner (Brother of Michigan QB Devin Gardner, plays at Michigan)
QB Bryce Payton (Son of Sean Payton, Starts at Rutgers)
WR Tim Biakabutuka (Starts at Michigan, Son of Tim Biakabutuka who real Michigan fans would know lol)
QB Cody Leaf (Brother of QB Ryan Leaf, Starts at Washington State)

And that's only a few of the many that I have created.

C: Start out as Offensive Coordinator in game, but pretend that you are really a position coach. The way I do it, my coaching carousel will look like this:

Position Coach 2 years at bad school - Position Coach 2 years at good school - Offensive Coordinatot 2 years at bad school.... etc. That adds another 4 years of working your way to the top.

And also, how do you change what coach you control?

Re: Keeping your Dynasty fresh

I think just restricting coaching changes and recruiting house rules are really good to keep dynasty's interesting.

I've done a dynasty where it seems like I leave for a new school every year. Gets boring quick. So forcing myself to stay at a job for multiple years helped with that.

Also house rules for recruiting. It's too easy once you know the system to pull in too recruiting classes even at terrible programs. Before I restricted recruiting I was hauling in great classes atTexas State. This year they're like a 97 ovr program, and that was with me only bringing in 2 recruiting classes!

The injuries in the game bother me. So I devised a better method to simulate injuries for my players, so it's closer to the injuries CPU teams suffer. (Reposted from injury thread on front page)

Here is the final system I am using in dynasty. I considered editing ratings but offensive linemen never get injured (even with injury rating 0). So here goes.

From this article (http://www.thefalcoholic.com/2010/7/...-groups-suffer) it appears running backs are by far the most injury prone position. Other positions are pretty similar and QBs don't get injured as often as in the game. So my system is

Before the game (I don't do this for bowl games), for each starter:

1) Generate random number between 1-100 (http://www.random.org/)

2a) For RB or dual-thread QB if <= 10 -> injury (see below for durations)

2b) For other starters if <= 5 -> injury

Crunching the math this means on average about 1.15 players per game get "injured". So you will see about 2-4 players on average injured at any given time.

3) If the player is injured (random number <= 10 for RB or <= 5 for others)

3b) Generate second random number between 1-100

1-40 => 1 week
41-55 => 2 weeks
56-70 => 3 weeks
71-75 => 4 weeks
76-80 => 5 weeks
81-85 => 6 weeks
86-100 => season-ending

3c) Optionally: For season-ending guys, flip a coin so 1/2 the time they can play in the bowl game.

This way you will get a good distribution of short term injuries with the occasional season ender. You can expect 1-2 season ending injuries per season.

This process only takes a minute after you get the hang of it and adds great immersion.

Re: Keeping your Dynasty fresh

I play now and in the past in "Athletic Director " mode. I start out at a1 star school, and I set up my coach philosophy. Then, I set up Initial recruits. I sim every week, set pc to do weekly visits, scholarships, I tweak it when players commit elsewhere. I sim every week, then if I make a conference championship game, I let the teams play each other and I watch. Then I do the same for Bowl games. I also make my friends and family low level assistants and see if they can build themselves up. I myself take jobs where I try to improve. The first 4 us I was at eastern Michigan, before leaving for Arkansas. I left EMU as a very good school and they compete every year. I have won 3 NC in 6 years at Arkansas so far.

This is an awesome idea. You could player-lock on your position of choice as well.

Re: Keeping your Dynasty fresh

Try switching up your offense. In my Bama dynasty I made David Cornwell and recruited him but then later I edited him to make him a great runner like Tebow and now I'm running with him more.

In NCAA 13 I did this a lot, but I got to the point where my playbook was perfect for my playstyle, and I began to tailor my players to the playbook instead of the other way around. I might have stuck with the tailoring more had I not become such a powerhouse recruiter.

I made a team of all people I knew playing for my college, which doesn't have a real football program. I was the starting running back but I've got good receiving skills, so by year 3 I had a playbook featuring a lot of formations where the halfback ran downfield. I also incorporated a lot of multi-HB sets because my backup was also really fast and shifty, and having me split out wide helped keep me healthy (I made myself realistically fragile, though missing large parts of two seasons made me regret that).

Re: Keeping your Dynasty fresh

Just went back and looked at these, and revisited some great ideas.

Some other things I do is create home-and-home series with teams as well as play one neutral site game a year. I usually try to make one of my non-conference games against a team or play in a state that is pipeline to give my guys that commit a chance to play in front of or against a team from their home state.

I also create a non-conference schedule 4 years in advance to give me more seasons to look forward. This also allows my strength of schedule a chance to vary from year to year, instead of trying to schedule the highest ranked teams year after year. It also makes those games a lot more special, when I am able to play a great team. I am in my fourth year and I scheduled Texas A&m at Jerry Land and they were ranked #2 at the time. Made for an exciting game.

One last thing I would say is do write ups for recurits that are visiting for that week. And even when they arent visiting your school, highlight what other schools they might be visiting that week.

Hope some of these help and reboots some interest in this post!
