Re: Blocked Field Goals?

For punts, an easy way to make it possible to block punts but not abusable is by having different punting formations. In real life, with the style of punts and the different formations, they could easlily make 10-15 different punt plays.

The creators could make it to where you have to pick the perfect punt block play against a certain formation and then get an amzing jump to have a shot at blocking the punt. It would make the users have more strategy on special teams and add a realistic special teasm feel.

Been saying this for YEARS. But I honestly think there would be too many complaining about bad snaps if they implemented that. I would LOVE it.

And here is the reason why EA can't add true blocks into the game. Because there is someone who will sit there all day until they find the perfect exploit.

I think EA should implement what users have discussed about bad snap but I don't think it should be random. I think the Kick meter should be made circular. The first revolution sweet spot should determine the snap quality (speed of meter movent determined by center's awareness and composure). Based on the snap the second go ground should determine kick power and accuracy as it does now. The kick meter speed should be based on the kickers abilities/ratings and the snap. Meaning a bad snap should make the meter go faster which would result in more failed kick types. i.e. i like to use lower trajectories on my long kicks. A bad snap and kick should result in an even lower trajectory making the kick easier to block if the opposing player jumps in time or has a 6'7 guy in there etc.

Also EA could do away with if you miss the meter it automatically kicks at low power. they could opt for the meter to give a second a chance at getting the perfect the kick but of course this would mean the kicker takes longer and makes those 2nd revolution kicks easier to block.

There would definitely be a crowd of people complaining about bad snaps. If bad snaps existed in this game, there would be a thread somewhere around here titled, 'Special Teams is Broken'...

Special teams hasn't been touched in years in either NCAA or Madden, it's pretty frustrating. I remember when the kick meter wouldn't start until the holder got the ball, you were able to block kicks then {that was back in like 07 or 08 in the "Momentum" feature days}, still kind of sounds like the way to go though.

Re: Blocked Field Goals?

The solution is simple......Make a sim mode that can be turned on or off.....
Sim mode = Bobbled snaps, fumbles made by regular tackles, and 1 button punting and fg's....Punting, kicking and line play are all determined by ratings. Once the ball is away or blocked, you take contol of your player again.

If you don't like sim mode, turn it off and you can play the game we have now with lack of fumbles, no blocked kicks, no bobbled snaps, etc.

I am a sim player but I dont want randomness to determine when the snap is bobbled.

with :03 seconds left in the BCS title game I don't want the cpu to decide that this is the first time all season I'll have a kick blocked. It should be in the hands of the user to execute the snap and kick.

Press X and hold to snap, timely press Y to catch snap cleanly, and flick RS for kick? Pressing Y too early or late causes the bad snaps?

Re: Blocked Field Goals?

I'm actually not opposed to randomness to allow it to happen. Things occur in a game that are outside of one player's control. As long as the randomness is based on data that gives us an accurate # of blocks, fumbles, etc. per season I'm all for it.

You could also base it on a Coach Skill like they do with the Letter of Intent/Instacommit thing. Make a Special Teams skill that creates a percentage chance of blocking kicks. The higher the skill is maxed, the higher the chance. They could implement it in game by causing the skill to affect the block shedding / blocking skills enough to create a better chance.

Or honestly, I'm someone who wouldn't mind if the game just slipped into a pre-made animation (a la Tecmo Bowl) where the kick gets blocked. I'd rather see that stuff in the game than completely missing.
