A non-senior player that doesn't see any playing time in the whole season will receive a redshirt, if they haven't already received one.

I noticed in one season, my 3rd- and 4th-string quarterbacks were automatically granted a redshirt because I didn't use either during the season. The 4th-stringer was a freshman, and the 3rd-stringer was a sophomore I had only played during his freshman year.

A senior not playing an entire season still graduates and leaves the program. I once tried redshirting a senior and, even though he had an extra year of eligibility, he still graduated and left.

Another thing I’m doing is only adding coach points in the off-season. Just like players get better in the off-season so will myself and my assistants. That way, it feels a little more like your coach became great over time as opposed to being a phenom in year 1.

Don’t know how I feel about avoiding adding points into the recruiting tree. The only things I really want from the tree are “The Opener” and “The Closer” giving me more points for the first and second halves of the season. I’m fine without kitchen sink and all that. If a kid locks me out I stay locked out. There are plenty of fish in the recruiting sea though I don’t typically add anyone after moving from preseason to the regular season.

Genius idea with the coach progression in the offseason don’t know why that never crossed my mind. Stealing it for future use

I usually geographic recruiting restrictions. It limits the total number players available, so you can limit how good you get. I tend to pick an area that represents about 20% or less of all the recruits. It keeps things contained.

New England or the Northeast is a great geographic constraint.
