It was touched on but IMO College Hoops 2k8 was the absolute pinnacle of sports gaming. There are things that game did (coach career, carousel, diff broadcasts/packages) that I absolutely miss. People still talk about NCAA 14 and for good reason but I, for one, really hope this marks the return of College Hoops. Being able to make a MyPlayer in CH and take them into 2k would just be...words can't even describe how good that would be haha.

They could make a fortune having all of Oregon's different uniforms as $$ DLC in the game.... they use like 14 different combos each season

Re: OS Roundtable: How Excited Are You That NCAA Games Are Potentially Returning?

While I'm excited for the possible return of NCAA Football, I have my excitement in check. Until we start hearing about the compensation models NCAA is proposing and hear rumors/reports that EA has approached NCAA about reaquiring the license, then I want to keep my hopes in check. But I do think the could get core group of developers back on the game. Ben Haumiller and Christian McCloud still works on Madden and Rex Dickson has said on twitter he would be very interested to get back to working on NCAA Football. For us, it would be important for the developers to get same level of creative Freedom as before. We all know Madden gets controlled by marketing and higher ups. I feel like as long as NCAA broke even and kept status quo, they had the creative freedom.

For me, as long as they can pick up where they left off in NCAA 14(as far as modes) or not turn into Madden lite, I would buy day 1 with no hesitation. I've never said that about Madden. NCAA has so much more replayability for me. I'm a person where once I win a title and/or my team gets dominant, honestly I start losing interest. But with roster turnover and recruiting, you always got to think 1-2 years ahead. And that gives you something to play for. In a game like Madden, your roster can look and feel the same because of contracts and draft/FA. But with NCAA, your roster will look different every 2-3 years and you have to plan ahead especially if someone might declare early or transfer. Like when I get to year 9(6th year with current team), i can lose up to 8 players on offense and only of those players is a OL. My offense would look completely different, and I'm looking forward to adapting to it

The possibility of a new NCAA game is exciting. As others have mentioned though, we need to check our expectations at the door. For one we are likely at minimum 2 years before a new game (which itself might be an ambitious prediction). Second, the sports gaming industry has changed a lot since NCAA 14. Back then we were still in the early stages of micro transactions. Regardless of what team has control of a new game, the higher ups will drive the flow of design, much like they do with madden and fifa.

I want a new NCAA game, but I'm concerned what it will look like.

I could see them using micro transactions for something like a UT mode using college stars of the past or throw back uniforms, and maybe even sponsorships in Dynasty mode. And I would be ok with those type of micro transactions if it helps add resources to the game

I see how we can think it could help add resources. But if you look at it, it appears most of added "resources" goes to Career mode cinematics. Look at FIFA's The Journey, NBA2k My Career, Madden's Longshot/FotF, thats where most of the bonus revenue has gone. They already kind of started microtransactions in NCAA 14 with those Dynasty packs and uniform store along with UT. I just don't want next game to go heavy with microtransactions.

They’ll put a new game out 2022-23. Have to wait for the NCAA to get all the new bylaws written. Man can’t for college sports to be back. Hopefully we’ll get a college baseball also.

Unfortunately what seems to happen is that these microtransaction 'features' end up perpetuating the need for those features. Instead of enhancements to for instance the dynasty mode, the focus ends up being on these other aspects which create the ongoing revenue streams so that those revenue generators are more appealing
