Tell Me About NO Conference Championships

If I was to do a conference realignment with no conference championships or maybe one with a low conference standing to fill in that week, I was wondering if any of you have done it and liked it, the season, the outcome, the bowl games, etc. Any tips?

I honestly prefer it.

Regular season is a playoff on it's own so whoever is the best deserve the championship. Bowl games are evenly matched.

I prefer it that way. I typically go back in time to like a mix between 1990-1992 to make my conferences a couple of times.

Plus, using the Utility tool and editing the teams to use for your own bowl games is fun too.

Re: Tell Me About NO Conference Championships

Does the no conference championship thing work better if each conference has 10 or 11 teams? I will have a few independent teams. So, far each conference has 11 teams with C-USA having 12 teams just to have one for conference championship week. I haven't played it this way yet. This is for my next season. Thanks for any tips.

Disclaimer: I've not done this (and assuming you're playing NCAA 14). However, there could be an issue with 11 teams. There have been plenty of posts discussing how C-USA's schedule is messed up when it is a 13-team conference, which I think is odd because the MAC was a 13-team conference in the 2013 season. I would tend to stay with an even number of teams in a conference unless someone has done this and can confirm there is no issue.

An 11-team conference will play 8 conference games with no protected rivals.

The biggest issue with 13-team conferences is the number of games played within each division. Teams will range between 2-6 games within a division. One theoretically could end up with a division champion with a 4-0 record, a second-place team with a 4-1 record, and the top two teams in the division never playing each other that season.

Re: Tell Me About NO Conference Championships

I thought that could happen. I like conference championship games. Was gonna try something different. I set up a realignment like this. Four major conferences. SEC, B1G, Big XII, and PAC 12. I used the championship contender rankings to set the conferences up with 14 teams in each one. Then some other conferences have 12 teams. Others have 7 or 8 teams. One independent. I will use this after my current season is over. I am playing NCAA 13 by the way.

Re: Tell Me About NO Conference Championships

I am currently doing this with my dynasty. I have all Power 5 conferences with 10 teams, and then all the Group of 5 conferences with 12+. One time when I did all conferences with only 10 teams, it simulated right through all the bowl games when I went to advance to Conference Championship Week. So I would suggest at least 1 conference with a Championship Game.

The biggest thing I have noticed, is that with everyone playing every team in the conference, you will very rarely have undefeated teams so it makes it really exciting.

I also do promotion and relegation with conferences. The 10th place team in each of the Power 5 conferences drops down to the Group of 5 conference. All tie breakers go to head to head. If there is a three way tie, then I go to best conference win based on the standings. Then the winner of the Conference Championship Games from the Group of 5 conferences, gets promoted to the Power 5.

I will also say that I am able to use the Playoff mod so that helps with setting up my 4 team playoff. For that, I take the 4 highest ranked Power 5 Conference Champions. This has been a blast because many times I have had a Conference Champion that wasn't the highest ranked team in their conference, so it gives you some interesting scenarios. In my first three years of the Playoffs I had different teams in all three playoffs and it was a blast to see.
