Problems with Punt Returns

I am in my 6th year at Kent State and all of the sudden my punt returners have started fumbling the ball on the punts.

I have changed the depth chart and am putting guys with high awareness, catch in traffic, spectacular catch, and catching as the returners, but I am still dropping at least 1 punt a game.

Any help would be appreciated. It sucks holding a team to a punt in a close game only to turn it over on the 35 yard line with a fumble

Re: Problems with Punt Returns

What is your returner's kick return rating? If that rating is pretty high, than you shouldn't be seeing that many drops. I know I have occasionaly started moving my returner before he actually caught the ball, and had drops because of this. Maybe that is what's happening.

Re: Problems with Punt Returns

Ill make that change...thanks. I just finished a game and it happened again! I had the controller laying in my hands...fingers away from any buttons after I called for the fair catch and he dropped it again. I had 2 picks and they turned on over downs the rest of the time. I did field 1 punt okay...but I fumble at least 1 a game.

I will let you know if that works.

Thanks again

I know this doesnt help your question but I was just curious how you are doing in your dynasty with Kent State after 6 seasons?

Re: Problems with Punt Returns

Carrying rating may be the most important attribute when maintaining control of the punt or kickoff.

A lot of WR have a pretty low CAR rating (50s or low 60s) and don't do to well with maintaining possession on punt and KO returns.

I am doing fairly well. I am a 6* program and just beat CMU for my 5th straight MAC title (have played them 6 times for it, lost the 1st one). I have lost 3 of my bowls game though. I am getting ready to play Texas in the Fiesta Bowl. I have a young team (only 10 Seniors this year) so they should get even better.
