Re: Custom Conference Ideas in NCAA 14

I haven't tried a regulation system before, but with the WAC gone, and only 10 conferences, it works out perfectly.

Here is what it will look like, first
-Teams that finish last in the top tier will go down to bottom tier
-Teams that finish 1st in the bottom tier will go up to the top tier
-When teams make it to the top tier from the bottom tier, there have a 3 year guarantee to stay in the top tier to build their team up in the conference.
-If one of those said teams, does finish last, the next last place team will be moved down instead.
-An independent team can move to a top tiered conference if they have 11 or more wins. If this does happen, the second worst team in the top tiered conference(the worst would go to the bottom tier conference) would become an independent until they got 11 wins and could join a top tiered conference.

Re: Custom Conference Ideas in NCAA 14

My promotion/relegation consists of 4 tiers.

One thing that sets my system apart from others is that there is no linear relationship of promotion/relegation between conferences in different tiers. Just because a team is relegated from the SEC does not mean that they are going to the ACC. They will go to the conference that is the best fit for them at the tier they were relegated to. Best fit is determined using geography and rivalries.

Tier # Conferences Schools per Conference
Elite 2; Big Ten, SEC 12
Upper 3; Pac-12, BIG XII, ACC 14
Lower 5; MWC, C-USA, Sun Belt, MAC, American 10
Bottom Feeders 1; Independents 10

  • The team at the bottom of each division in the Elite and Upper tiers are relegated.
  • Each conference champion of the Upper and Lower tiers is promoted.
  • The highest-ranked non-champion in both the Upper and Lower tiers is also promoted.
  • The top 5 independents are promoted to the Lower tier, while the bottom 5 in the Lower tier are relegated to Independent status.

Both champions of the Elite conferences play one another at the end of the year in a BCS bowl. Each of the Upper conference champions receive invites to a BCS bowl against an at-large opponent. The BCS bowls have no effect on promotion/relegation outside of determining the final ranking, which is used for promotion of highest-ranked non-champions in the Upper and Lower tiers.

I like that idea...what are your regional alignments. Would love to see your initial alignment when you have it figures out.

Re: Custom Conference Ideas in NCAA 14

All of this may be wrong. I cant remember for sure how many teams were in last year i think it was 123.

Last year i put all the teams in a spread sheet and sorted them by their overall rating #1-123. I took the top 12 and put them in a conference. I sorted the divisions by rating as well. Div A had #1, 4, 5, 8, 9, and 12. Div B had #2, 3, 6, 7, 10, and 11. I did this for The PAC 12, Big 12 and 7 other conferences. Big 10 had the 10 teams ranked #109 through #118. One conference only had 4 teams. The ones rated #119 through #122. There was only 1 independent team and it was the worst team (Umass i think).

At the end of every year i took the worst team and the best teams form each conference and promoted / demoted them. If Umass had a better record than lets say Idaho. Idaho would drop to the IND and Umass would move up the the 4 team conference. I did this for every conference except the one i picked as the best conference (big 12 i think it was). So the Big 12 champ would stay.

Definitely will! The initial setup will simply be arranged using the Top 24 in Tier 1, and so on through the tiers. The geographic arrangement will be determined as teams are filled out.
I have a Google Docs spreadsheet set up for it -- expanded upon when I did something similar in NCAA Football 12. I'll share that when I'm finished. However, I can give you a basic idea of what I expect the regions to be:

Elite:
  • Big Ten: west of Mississippi
  • SEC: east of Mississippi

Upper:
  • Pac-12: West coast, potentially into Texas
  • BIG XII: Southeast, also potentially into Texas
  • ACC: Midwest, Northeast

Lower:
  • MWC: West coast, Rocky Mountain states
  • C-USA: Texas, Louisiana
  • Sun Belt: East coast, Florida to Virginia
  • MAC: Midwest
  • American: Northeast

Independents can be anyone, obviously

By the way, here's the setup I'm using in NCAA Football 12 (with the WAC): https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/...2c&usp=sharing
The important/interesting tabs are the "Season YYYY" tabs.
  • Green indicates conference champion
  • Yellow indicates division champion
  • Blue indicates highest-ranked non-champion
  • Red indicates last-place team to be relegated
Some of the moves are kind of odd (like Miami going to the West Coast-based Big Ten), but I figured, what's college football without some controversy?

Re: Custom Conference Ideas in NCAA 14

I am setting up a relegation system with the 10 conferences and adjusting them by my own ratings I make. I name my divisions Legends and Leaders (like the Big Ten) and put the big rivals in different divisions, and I set up cross rivals according to rivalries. Sometimes, there aren't enough rivalries, and I sort the teams into random rivalries, going mainly by location. For example: I am setting up my top 12 teams into the SEC. These are the two divisions and the cross-rivalries:

Leaders (Legends)
LSU (Alabama)
South Carolina (Clemson)
Texas A&M (Texas)
Louisville (Georgia)
Oregon (Stanford)
Ohio State (Notre Dame)

For the independents, I have the Armed Forces Academies (Army, Navy, Air Force), Hawaii, my team, and I am yet to decide on my 6th independent team. I will likely put Old Dominion as that 6th independent.
