Coach Progression Rate

Does anyone use Fast / Fastest coach progression in their dynasties? The recommendation in the forums is always Slow, but the CPU gains progression points at a slower rate than the user and I can (and do) limit my user coaching tree.

It seems like there would be a bigger challenge, in gameplay and recruiting, by having CPU coaches progressing more quickly and having more coaching boosters.

Re: Coach Progression Rate

I’ve done it both ways. When I progressed at the fastest rate, It would only take 2 seasons before my team felt too overpowered. Honestly, the coach skill tree just warps the game so much that it doesn’t really matter how fast the CPU coaches are progressing for me. So I don’t use them at all anymore.

Now if it’s actually confirmed that progression rate effects User and CPU equally, then I would say setting it to fastest and then not adding skill points to your team would naturally be the biggest challenge.

Re: Coach Progression Rate

That's the question I'm asking. I'm already not filling any of my Game Manager tree and Coordinator trees. So if CPU does progress faster, I think this would make other coaches far better.

Ok, yeah I have no clue. But if it does, there’s the unintended consequence of there being parity in coaching within several years. Meaning lots of the coaches would be at Nick Saban level faster than if you went slower.

Re: Coach Progression Rate

Just thought I'd add that in the "50(ish) threshold-based" slider set, the OP recommends to use Normal because he strongly suspects that the Coach Progression setting has unintended effects on gameplay (sort of like how kicker accuracy affected tackling or whatever it was in one of the games). Here's a link to thread for anyone curious, his reasoning is in the OP under the "secret sauce" heading:

Set the Coach Progression setting to "Normal". Yeah....I know, it sounds crazy, Not only that, it can only be done at the start of a dynasty.....unless someone knows how to change this using the dynasty editor.

I'm pretty darn convinced though that this setting is key; that setting it to other speeds affects the speed that other things occur in-game...particularly fatigue rates and the hot/cold streaks. If you've been using "very slow" for the last few years like I have, I bet you can't recall the last time you had one of your defenders hit a cold streak late in a game. Hot/cold streaks definitely seem better overall as does fatigue with this set to normal. I also think that setting coach progression to slower settings caused some wonky stuff to happen with HFA. Hoping one of our talented dynasty editor gurus can help us figure out how to adjust this for existing dynasties....I will be starting a new one - but I know others have very long-term dynasties ongoing.
I haven't played enough to know if he might be onto something or not, but for the sake of information and future googlers finding this thread, I just thought I'd throw it into the discussion!

This is very interesting, although he only commented on the slow side of normal, rather than the fast side as well.

It's possible that if gameplay is linked, that fast or fastest could produce improved gameplay.

This variable could be identified using the generic editor. I was wondering about this the other day actually. My suspicion is that it is either a Coach Unknown or a User Option/Game Option.
