I have selected to control all the teams in the league. However, after the league begins it defaults to Barcelona and I'm unable to select/switch to another user controlled team. Does anyone have an answer to my issue?

You can only control the team that you have the next match with. After you play the Barca match, you will control a different team until their match is complete.
