Shot on the volley?

Looking for some help ...

How do I get my guy to shoot a shot on the volley? If I send a cross in (and *IF* it actually goes somewhere near my attacking player) - how do I get him to attempt a volley shot?

If the cross is inside the 6yrd box and my guy tries for a header - well, that is fine with me. But if the cross is out around the 18yrd box - I do not want a weak-a$$ header attempt - I would prefer a shot with the foot.

Is this a timing thing? Do I have to wait for the ball to bounce? I find that, if I wait at all, the defense is always there to swallow up my chance.

Any thoughts? Thank a bunch!

(I am playing all-manual ... not sure if that matters ...)

Combination of timing and the CPU predetermining the play. If I send a cross in that far I usually:

Super Cancel the player so I have full control of him.
Position him so that the ball will drop near his feet
Press Shoot

Re: Shot on the volley?

When I try the "super-cancel" it seems that my guy just stops for a moment.

Is this just a "practice and get used to it" sort of thing?

Should I also try "super-cancel" on header-crosses and corner kicks?

Re: Shot on the volley?

This may be a coincidence, but my guys seem to volley more when I use the finesse shot (RB+shoot). But as KG said, most of it comes down to timing and positioning. I can say without any doubt that manual crossing into space and using super cancel to run onto the ball certainly increases the likelihood of volley opportunities.

Yeah, you have to time it just write or like Q said, go to manual crossing and get there early.

I only use Super Cancel if I think there is a better path to the ball. If not I'll let the cpu drift my player there for the header. Remember, it's important to fight for position on headers but ratings/size also play an important role.

Re: Shot on the volley?

What I do is hold LT to control it with the player's chest, then hit shoot. He will usually volley it off his chest. To volley just off the cross, it's pretty random. You have to hope that the player ends up in a position where the ball will come down close to his feet.

Re: Shot on the volley?

its already been said... but its all about the super-cancel. it takes a while to get used to it, because your player isntantly comes off the "rails." but its the best way to set up shots. i actually think the best control set up is pass assitance (assisted), lob (manual), through ball (manual), cross (semi) and shot (semi)... and using the supercancel... what a game... have fun mate!
