Horrible bug -- Will this be patched, anyone know?

I'm really liking the game (rented it) and would love to go purchase it this week. But I came across an awful bug that happens when I edit either tactics or formations. It saves, but when I go to reload the save, all the info is corrupted -- my lineup is all haywire and my reserves have been replaced with a bunch of GK's with numbers for names.

Anyone know if this will be addressed?

I've never downloaded patches either. Does it require a Gold account, or can I set up a Silver account and grab any patch that comes out? Thanks.

I corrupted a roster or two with this last year and tried to get it to the dev team through EA community rep. As far as I can tell, it happens when you edit a custom formation that is assigned to a team during a game (almost positive it's just in-game edits). If you change the role/position of a player in the formation, the corresponding player in the starting XI of the team(s) gets corrupted -- you'll see placeholder values where he should be.

I lost Samir Nasri after changing him from a LM to LAM during a game. Being a gooner, I had to download a new roster and lost all my editing work to that point (it was relatively early). In the spring after the January transfer update, I changed something with a CM in a formation I had assigned to ManU (and forgotten about). Sure enough, Owen Hargreaves was no more. I didn't bother to do another squad file since he never plays anyways... zing!

I guess the moral of the story is to always have a backup file. Between this and Live Season over-writing a squad update, I've learned my lesson.

I always have plenty of backup files. But there's the issue: I edit my formation and save. When I reload the save, the info is all corrupted. I can't seem to create custom formations for my team and then save it. When I do, the file becomes corrupted.

If you edit the formation from the team management screen under the main menu, you should be OK -- I've made several formations and adjusted them several times without issues in FIFA 10. I think the problem only occurs when editing during a game and when the formation is assigned to a team under team management.

Example:

I create Custom 1 4-3-3 in the main menu team management screen and assign it to Arsenal. I start a game, jump out to a big lead and want to change my wingers to side MFs to be more conservative. I pause the game, go into the formation menu, edit the existing Custom 1 formation and save.

After the game, I return to Arsenal's team management menu to find my starting wingers replaced with franken-numbers.

Is this what you're doing?

That's what I'm doing -- I've never edited formations in-game. There are a couple of other screwy things going on as well, so it may be something else. Example: I've been editing players, and in the editing screen a player's rating drop downs, say, 7 points. Then when I go to the squad edit screen and shift him around, he still has his original overall rating. NHL 08 had similar issues with roster editing corrupting roster saves. So I'm going to have to look into this further -- that could be the problem.

I do shift to different custom formations while in-game. But I don't edit them. Maybe that has something to do with it? I'll have to test that.
