In real life teams loan players out to lesser teams if they know that player won't figure much in their plans this season. It can be for a couple months, or for an entire season. Often times it is with younger players, and it is a chance to give them more playing time before they are ready for their own club's first team action.

Many times the loan occurs to a league in a lower division, but it may also happen that a team loans a player within the same division, with the possibility that a loaned player will appear in a game against his parent club. In real life, they can have clauses that avoid such things, or saying he can't play in a cup match, but I haven't looked into all the loan details in FIFA yet.

Re: Idiots Guide to Manager Mode?

Excellent help from the knowledgable "football" fans, hope it continues. Thanks!

The answer to the loan question is that loans in FIFA are for the duration of a season. You get the player back at the end.

I actually knew a little bit about how transfers worked, but had no idea there were free agents! Most sports games look pretty deep, but are much shallower in reality. FIFA 10 looks pretty staightforward, but actually has quite a bit of depth!

Here's one thing I never understood, though: It's the club's decision whether to buy or sell a player, right? Is the interest meter, then, a reflection of what the player wants, or what his team wants? For example, increasing the transfer fee would make the club more likely to sell him, but it shouldn't impact the player's desire to switch teams in any way, right? If the team can simply sell him against his will, why do you have to convince the player to approve the transfer with higher salary and bonuses?

Thanks.
