Question about Re-Signing Players

I've become pretty proficient at Transfers, but I'm wondering what the logic behind re-signing players is.

For example, say I have 23-year old defender, who is currently making wages of $2,300. His contract is up in 4 months. If I go to re-up his deal, the most that the game allows me to offer is $4,000. When I offer this for any length of contract, he says "no".

Why? If I want to badly overpay for this guy to keep him, why can't I even try that? Has anybody figured why certain players don't want to re-sign with you? Playing time? Team success? (My team is actually doing very well)

Thanks.

Re: Question about Re-Signing Players

Does nobody have an answer/response to this? I find it hard to believe that nobody on this thread has tried to re-sign a player in MM before.

Thanks!

I don't think resigning works. I've offered max deals in-season only to be refused and have the player re-up in the off-season for less money.

Just another MM bug.

I guess I'm not sure what is meant by "max" deals. The most it will allow me to do with some players is like $1,000 to $2,000 over what they're already making in match wages. I have re-signed players in the past, so I know it "works".

But when they refuse to resign, you are given no reason, and no view of what's going on "under the hood". As far back as games like Madden 2005, there's been explanations as to why you can't sign a player (team prestige, lack of playing time, facility conditions, etc.). In fact, FIFA 10 has something similar to this when you make transfer offers that are rejected ("you are trying to hog all the talent", "not a good fit", etc.). But you aren't given any reason when trying to re-sign players, which is frustrating.

Re: Question about Re-Signing Players

Anyone else that can offer insight on re-signing players? I'm about to lose two key players with expiring contracts. One of them is a guy I signed as a transfer and another was a prospect I scouted. Both of them get regular playing time as starters, but the system won't allow me to offer more than $4,000 or $6,000 in weekly wages, so there's no way for me to make them a better offer.

Even with the offered amounts "maxed" out, they turn down my offer. Is there any rhyme or reason to this?
