Re: Game Speed (Slow vs. Normal)

When I'm really involved in offline play, I change my team mentality throughout game much like Matt describes. It certainly helps to get men forward if you go to at least attacking once you have possession in your opponent's half. You'll see more overlapping runs and the added benefit of more up for corners, as Matt mentioned.

I usually move it between defensive, balanced, and attacking during the run of play. Not at all difficult to make a few clicks on the D-pad; I reach over with my right thumb so I can retain control of my guy with the L-stick.

Re: Game Speed (Slow vs. Normal)

I only use the D-Pad switches during situational times like when leading and protecting or when down and needing a goal, never during the run of play each possession.

I'm curious as to why no one here uses assisted for their passing as I do. It is the only control I have on assisted but I feel like others who play think it takes away from the realism (ping-pong passing) but to be honest I think it keeps it realistic. Even with it on assisted and playing as Arsenal, I have players misplace passes or have them intercepted so it isn't perfect, and I feel that since I am supposed to "be" the best players in the world, why should passing be hard? I keep through balls and lobbed passes on manual because I think those are passes that need the most skill to be completed, even for pros and shooting and crossing on semi because it still requires some skill from the user. Another thing that might help you all is keeping passing on assisted, you will be surprised at how your pass accuracy still is nowhere near perfect but it will seem to keep you out of the crazy CPU pressure a bit easier. The good thing too is that it doesn't make Legendary too easy either, even playing as Arsenal I am out of the league cup in the first round and sitting 4th in the EPL.

Since switching to assisted, I've improved my attacks - so I'm 100 percent in agreement with you MB.

The dpad method to me is almost just as important as having 11 players on the field. I play EA games, so I try to think like EA. Not only is the dpad for strategy, but I believe it is the one feature that puts the mentality of my players on what needs to be done. Not just using Ultra Defense as a means to get everyone back - rather instead used as a means to tell my players to tackle aggressively, even when I'm not controlling you.

Hope that makes sense.

It makes a ton of sense, because I get very frustrated at the lack of common sense that is sometimes displayed by teammate AI but it's a little too much for me to take care of while trying to build my attack and defend.

Glad that the assisted passing is helping you, I know some people find it cheap but in reality I think if you have the right amount of power (which is still up to the user) and are playing an easy pass, your professional player shouldn't miss it.

What are good custom tactics for defending the counter attack? It seems the computer when down at about the 75th minute goes counter attack heavy. Would like to have a preset put in for a good defense. Normally I go defensive and possession minded.

I switched the passing to Assisted the minute I started playing on Legendary. It actually feels more realistic to me than the manual setting does this year. On Legendary, you don't have time to aim, power and pass. With the Pro Passing, or whatever they're calling it this year, the passing game still feels organic enough for my tastes and I can pull of what I need to pull off without getting frustrated.

Re: Game Speed (Slow vs. Normal)

I use semi-assisted short passing because I don't like how assisted passing sometimes has a mind of its own. I also use semi shooting, but everything else is manual... although I'm getting accustomed to semi-assisted crossing after about 100 club games with it.

Re: Game Speed (Slow vs. Normal)

Well isnt "Normal" the default game speed? I saw this thread and thought my game speed was "slow" by default so I went to change it and found out "normal" is the default speed. I still think "normal' is too slow, so Im now going to try "Fast". & to be honest, its not that big of a difference.
