Gameplay issue

Ok so In my opinion the CPU defense in this game is too good. And the user defense is too easy. Last night I had a game where I had 49 tackles in 1 game against the CPU. They dribble right at me until i steal it. When I'm on offense it seems like every team, no matter what plays a swarming d and they are impossible to do things against. Any thru ball I try is denied, and any time I try to hit a ball passed the defense to my teammate up the sideline, it's stopped. I'm getting a little frustrated. I play on the 3rd difficulty, it's the one in the middle, maybe "professional". If I go down a level to get my attack going, I'll score 5 goals a game and have 60+ tackles. If I go up a level of difficulty i probably won't tackle as much but I'll never score at all. Any one else notice these things? Any suggestions on what to do?

You're right that basically every team plays swarming D. I think you're best bet is to stay on Professional or move up...no reason to play at a difficulty where you have no problem scoring. The key to improving at those levels is to pass more (and probably at closer distance) and not dribble/sprint too much directly at the defense.

One thing that helped me a lot with the through-ball and attack in general was playing with two strikers (or a ST and a CF) - you can play the one-two between them which confuses the CBs since they're split.

Another thing is to adjust the tactics to how you want to play. I play with heavy short passing and then increased shooting and less crossing in the box, and once my tactics matched with the Custom tactics in the menu, my offense improved dramatically.

Re: Gameplay issue

Are you using assisted passing and crossing? That could be a nice way to get your offense going at a higher difficulty level until you get used to it.

If you're already on assisted, another nice way to get goals at a new difficulty level is to take advantage of some of the poor defender reaction times when guarding 1v1. Spread your attackers wide and try to always be waiting for your striker to get to the top of the box with a lone defender marking him closely. Get him the ball, use dribble modifier for your spin first step and quickly move in the direction opposite of the defender's momentum. You'll blow by him, tap it ahead and you should get a good shot on goal before another defender gets over to help. (If you can't visualize this tactic, picture in basketball spinning from a post-up with your back to the net to drive for a layup. Same general idea).

It's a lame tactic, but it definitely helps get goals at a higher difficulty level. I used it when moving up to Legendary. Now I've gotten more used to the difficulty and I try to avoid it and play a more realistic offense, but admittedly still use it when desperate for goals late in a Cup match.

Re: Gameplay issue

Thanks for the responses. I never use assited passing or crossing, i feel like it cheapens the game a little bit. I find it alot more rewarding to get a nice goal thats set up by me doing it manually.

How come FIFA doesnt use sliders in their games so that you could tune the aspects of the game that fit your play style?
