Do you seriously call tactical defending gimmicky? Its actually one of the best updates to the game in a while.

This game is spectacular. It's only 3 mins and only has 6 teams, but each team plays so different it's not funny.

Tactical defending is amazing. Is it different, yup, but in a good way. Before you could use the R-Stick to go shoulder to shoulder, but now you can do that, plus tug on opponent's shirts to slow them down, etc.

I think the problem is most people play with automatic controls and things such as auto switching on, but believe me, if you learn to play on manual the game definitely responds better.

I used to be a HUGE PES guy and even got an infraction years ago for talking down FIFA, but pes has been a joke since PES 6, imo and it pains me to say that cause i HATE EA! lol

I like some things about PES, but it still feels as though the game isnt very fluid and it's hard to get the ball to go as fast as you want, to whome you want, etc.... whereas FIFA's ball has its own physics so it works sooo well, imo.

I wish Seabass got fired from PES and these two games joined today and take each game's best qualities and form SUPER-SOCCER muahaha

My issue isn't the controlling -- actually, that is one things that I've always felt was done well.

It's the simple fact that Fifa as a game does not pose any real strategic soccer gameplay to me. Case and point is the "Tactical defending" in Fifa vs "Hold-Up Possession" in PES. I have yet to see the CPU in the Fifa demo pass the ball back and look for a different run or option on offense. It's the same cards played almost every time and it gets old quickly.

I love the fact that this sport has competition in the video game realm -- I just have simply found my soccer nirvana elsewhere. =)

It gets old quickly, and it becomes predictable.

Glad you like it . And yes seriously, I don't think it's implemented well. I like the idea but the execution is not there, IMO. With TD, if you're playing on the higher difficulties it feels as if the cpu just passes the ball around forever with your AI defenders just looking and not doing nothing about it. I'm getting used to it as I play more though. Some people like fifa more, some people like the other game more for varying reasons.

Ahh yes, the old reliable: "These critics don't know the game. They must never have played" argument. Its the "gold standard" non relevant defense when someone can't understand why the game they love is not loved by others.

OK. Let's see:

College Scholarship as a soccer player, semi pro soccer player, coached the captain of the US National Women's team that won the World Cup a few years back.

Umm, does that make me qualified?

The game is the same all the time. There is no personality to it.

Not even the people who love it can defend it from a tactical point of view. Let's see how quickly the cpu can fire the ball forward to the strikers who do 100% of the scoring.

God forbid a midfielder score from distance, let alone take a shot.

And, you clearly aren't playing FIFA if you say the teams play differently. Barca does not stand out in any way as different.

Its pretty but its not soccer. 5th grade soccer maybe, where all the kids go 100% forward 100% of the time. But, big boy soccer it is not.

Agreed. Also noticed the CPU is NEVER offside and there is a major lack of fouls in the game based off the demo.

Because they don't take chances. I don't see the CPU making lead volley passes in the middle for a score.

yeah, I was looking through the list of sliders hoping to find a foul frequency slider but there is none. I think I'm seeing like one call against the cpu every 2 games or so
