Contract length glitch

Don't remember if anyone has brought this up, I'm sure somebody has but couldn't find anything. I signed a player during the January window with a 1 year contract. When I look at his contract, his contract is expiring the same season I bought him, and since he recently signed I can't negotiate a new contract with him. Will I be able to offer a new contract before the season ends or will I be forced to let him go at the end of the season and then try to resign him as a free agent?

Never mind. 2 months before the season end I'm now able to negotiate a new contract.
