Every year I have started out with NHL and would end up selling it to pick up NHL2K. This year is a bit different, I've played the NHL2K demo and the full version of NHL. Both games are great in their own right with both having plusses and minuses.

Even after 12 games, I have the basics down on the skill stick, but there is much more practice on my end before I can get the hang of things. I also don't mind hitting the right trigger for passing, you get used to it. One thing that I don't like is the camera angles, they really suck on this game. I currently am playing with the Action camera and it's the best way to play this game imo. NHL2K I think has a great advantage here with the camera, it's just right.

The ice looks nicer in NHL2K, but the ice with NHL is no slouch either. I will give the player models to NHL over 2K. Especially the goalies in NHL, they have been animated so well where they have their own limbs. Controlling the goalie is so much fun imo finally in a hockey.

Many were complaining that this game stutters or drops in framerate and I didn't notice any of that at all. I know NHL runs at 30fps and NHL2K runs at 60fps, so I think that those that played 2K's game first or even right after NHL noticed how smooth as butter the 2K engine runs at 60fps. There are no hiccups with NHL for me even in the menus/stat overlays like Madden. Now with Madden it would irritate me to no point. Maybe EA is finally learning to optimize their games with NHL being their first.

The commentary is ok in NHL, sometimes it's repetitve, but it gets the job done. I'm happy with NHL07 and think that next year if EA refines this game instead of trying to do anything new, they will have one very good title on their hands.
same here, I was always a 2k hockey guy, not this year, I love how 07 plays, I got used to the game and I'm loving it, I play on action came and I think it's great, I played the 2k demo over and over again, and played 2k7 at my bud house, I still came away loving NHL, I think the graphics are a lot better in NHL07, yes the game runs smoother in 2k7, but I think nhl07 runs just fine to me. Loving it so far.

Play a game in Phoenix vs the Coyotes.

The atmosphere is the best I've heard so far in this game. They have the wolf sound and they chant "CUJO" after Joseph makes a huge save.

It was awesome!

I'm still in love with the gameplay and I'm trying to see if I can findany workarounds for franchise, as much as I hate the screw up the damn gameplay keeps luring me back.

Re: Official 360 Impressions Thread

I feel like a sellout. I have played 2k7 for last 3 days now, but I kept reading over and over how good this game was. I was really surprised to find most of the ongoing comments about the 2 hockey games going on in this forum.

So I go over to EB and give it a run, not that I know what the hell I am doing anyway, but did I have a ball with this game. It feels like I was really working to get good passes, in 2k7 it was just to crisp on everything for my taste. The graphics were amazing, so what do I go do? I traded 2k7 for 07. After being fed up with my beloved Madden 07 due to the patch, EA has really come back with a good game if not great.

Just my 2 cents. Hey PM get ready for me to start bugging you again, beginner sliders please?

PM, I just don't know how guys hate this game, this is the best Hockey I played on a long while, I've played 2k for the last 5 years, and I love NHL far better, I just started a dynasty and I'm playing on 5 minutes and I bumping it up to 10, the last 3 games I played the shot totales for both team have been real low, wich is great, now I know I can move up to 10 minuets, this game really plays great, and I have no issues with the D. I just don't see how people keep sauing that this game plays faster then 2k7 out of the box, I played 2k7 and it feels like it plays a lot faster then NHL07 out of the box, anyway to each his own, NHL07 is a great game.

Re: Official 360 Impressions Thread

I tried to go over to 2k because I was mad about the dynasty mode bug, but I just wasn't feeling it, and the bug in dynasty is at least manageable. Out of the box this game is really only just an arcade hockey game with innovative controls, but if you tweak the settings you can get a fantastic sim experience.

I love the hitting in this game, the difficulty of it really gets you fired up when you line up that perfect hit and unload on a guy. I had a simply amazing hit in the battle of Ontario, caught Alfie coming accross the middle with his head down trying to deke and lined him up with Colaiacovo and leveled him, took him out for a month with a concussion. I was completely pumped and jumping up and down as Alfredsson lay there on the ice with the trainer attending to him. I did lose the game 3-1 though.

Also in the next game a 3-2 loss to Montreal, Samsanov really got pushed around, no huge open ice hits on him but he got shoved to the ice and banged with a shoulder a number of times. He kept trying to come back and help in the defensive zone and Sundin was really swatting him around like a fly. Gotta love when the big Swede gets a bit firey and starts throwing that 6'5" 230lb frame around in the offensive zone!

Re: Official 360 Impressions Thread

The "newness" has died down a little... but guess what? The more I play, the better the game gets! The better I get with the controls, the funner it is.
