If i lose a game because the other guy got 1 wrap around, 1 hook shot, 1 one-timer and 1 garbage goal I'd be pissed about the hook shot, wrap around, and probably the one timer (if he went for it a bunch).. The problem is like last year people would only know the hook shot, and if they didn't get it they just skated in circles (couldnt be caught) until they could get a 1 timer. I mean in 600 games I had a GAA of under .94 and a record of about 500-100 and I'd say most of those losses came from opponents that got outplayed and outmatched but got off their cheap stuff to win.
Let's get real, there has been a "weakness in game tuning" in every version of the NHL series I've seen.. The hook shot is done with the same EXACT motion on the right stick so why don't you just program into the game that if a player does that controller motion more than twice a game, they get a warning, penalty, or something so people can't just do the same thing over and over. Then you don't chase tails tuning the game and you cut the cheese (hehe) off at the head. I don't care if theres a 5 min major for "cheesing" because it's unrealistic to do toe drag wrist shots every time. Heck, have the goal replays be 20 seconds before the goal and have the ability at the end of a game to report cheesers. Stop treating people like Care Bears and let them be held accountable. That's why people are tough guys online, there is no punnishment for anything!
Problem is with that, legit goals would be disallowed/penalised and people would be fuming more than ever. I will be happy as long as the obvious cheats from NHL09 are gone and they address any serious ones in NHL10 promptly.

Sorry if it sounded like I jumped down your throat, I know you guys care about your product and do your best to fix any problems.

A little side note problem, will you guys/have you guys addressed the problem of people constantly freezing the OTP lobby? Or is that more a problem with the PS network? There's a guy called _flamewalker I think and his buddies that freeze that thing every 15 minutes or so during the peak play hours.

I can't really speak to this myself because I don't directly have any responsibility for online (beyond how gameplay works online). I don't know how much of that is ours versus problems with first party networking, or even local configuration issues.

Detecting cheese automatically seems like every bit as hard a problem as eliminating it -- probably more so.

We'll see how NHL10 does, I'm cautiously confident that it will be much better than 09 was, and like last year I expect we will have the green light to support the game with necessary fixes. We've got ideas how to improve the situation even more -- just need the time to implement them.

Well, you work very hard on the product and take a lot of pride in it so of course you want to make a game with as little cheese as possible. For the hook shot, it took a very specific motion to do and the motion was unreal for hockey. So once it because officially a "cheesy" goal, just have red flags go up when someone does that unnatural motion.
Plaidchuck, I'm talking about very specific goals.. Stick dekeing, slap shots, wrist shots, you can shoot them till the cows come home. But holding the right stick to the side, pulling it back, drifting another way with the d-pad, and then curling the right stick up in the opposite direction is a lot different. I mean my friends and I quit playing 09 after the latest patch because of how much people cheesed, and my friend and I were ranked 18 overall on PS3! I just hope things are delt with in 10 because when you dominate someone and lose because they got off 3 exploit goals, it makes you just want to not play anymore.
BTW, redshirt, I was curious what happened to the feature of setting your lines and then they would save and carry over into online play? It was in 08, but absent in 09. My friend and I lock positions so it's really time consuming when you're spending 2 min before a game setting the lines so the best players are playing the right position. Do you know if it will be back in 10?

Re: NHL10 Demo wraparound glitch

Thanks for the replies Redshirt, I was really hoping that most of these glitches would be addressed, and it seems like most of them have been. Granted that you don't play on a noob skill level, there really aren't any 'money' goals that I've found this year. Even if you score a softy on a goalie, that goalie tends to adjust afterwards so that it doesn't happen as easily again.

As someone mentioned, there's a fine line between killing all glitch goals and not taking away the randomness of the puck just squirting through ocassionally.

I'm not sure why that was dropped (not my area), I don't think it saves in 10 either.

I must just really suck, but after trying the wraparound "glitch" like 10 times, I only managed to score once using Malkin.

And this was on pro difficulty too.. lol.

Did it look legit or was it the "duuhh it went right through my legs as I stood picking my nose" I find it pretty annoying it's still in there at all. It will still cost people a lot of games online.
