I hate to say so, but I doubt that'll happen this year. Then again, maybe the devs'll surprise us. Only thing I'm sure of is that Team First Presentation isn't only aesthetics like menus and backgrounds in-game.

PA announcers maybe? It's possible. All they have to do is get sound-bytes of each PA announcer introducing the team. They probably wouldn't be able to get their goal calls, but maybe team specific things like Boston's "Woo" after the goal is called could be included.

Or maybe they'll let us further customize how our teams are presented e.g. when creating teams, they may allow us to choose from a preset list of unique goal horns, or allow us to name our new arenas etc..

I think you're setting yourself up for disappointment to be honest. I doubt it will extend much beyond team selected players in menus, or a logo here or there.

There's no way EA'll screw us THAT badly, although yes, maybe I'm getting my hopes a bit too high. Psh, guess I'll deal with the PA stuff myself, since I won't be able to count on EA for that lol.

One can dream though, one can dream. Maybe in another 5 years ;p

It's a bullet point for the back of the box really. I'm more interested in the on ice stuff being improved with the real time(ish) replays with commentary. Years ago, I can't remember if it was NHL 2001 or 2002 (it was one of those, which prior to 07 was the last EA NHL I had played) They had something called "Game Story" where they broke down plays with commentary, it was supposed to come back the following year and ended up being stripped out of the game for whatever reason, one year after it was added.

I've been waiting for something like that to return ever since, being a big on ice presentation guy. It's sad I know but aside from the skating and the AI, (and hopefully the GM Logic if it pans out) I think I'm almost as excited to see that aspect of the revamped presentation than anything else.

Guess we'll have to wait until August for the details. If they bring a feature back like that, I'll be impressed.

The part of the "real time" on-ice presentation that concerns me is the length of time between stoppages. From the snippet of gameplay shown at E3, those "cutscenes" were pretty short. The goal celebration was pretty short too, and once again has that one goal scorer celebrating alone without any interaction with his teammates.

The stoppages have gotten shorter ever since they added EASHL really. The online casuals can't be bothered with presentation they're just going to button mash through to get to the next glitch goal opportunity.

Why this affects the offline game as well really annoys me. I just hope that they mentioned added PBP that's relevant, actually works out.

Ideally, you'd want two presentation options: casual and hardcore. Casual would be as is I guess, or they could skip cutscenes entirely. Hardcore presentation could be authentic, and we could actually have minute-long goal celebrations like in real-life. It's not something that complicated either.

i'm curious of how instigating fights and post whistle activities will take place if stoppages are 5 seconds long (nope, no exaggeration; gameplay video).

Yeah that's a really good question, granted that may be because it was still alpha footage and still a work in progress. But I suppose we'll have to see how it pans out come demo time.
