Re: Do I have the worst luck ever in this game?

The issue I most frequently have with my goalie is that if he gives up one, he will most certainly give up a second. More often than not, if I give up a goal and the opposing team wins the subsequent faceoff, they will very likely earn a very cheap goal.

Maybe the goalie gets jitters after giving one up? Most often, they'll win the faceoff back to a defensive player who skates up to the blue line and just drills one that goes in. On another one, I had a guy shoot one off my goalie from behind the goal line which my goalie promptly did his best to deflect it into the net.

I just had a game where all three goals against me were #2. It's almost laughable.

3 goals from the blue line and two of them weren't even slap shots.

Ok I'm slow, lol. You meant #2 of OP's list. I got it.

Yes, frustrating isn't the word. I've had that happen to me as well. I know in real life it can happen, as evidenced in the SCF. But every game!!?? come on now!

Re: Do I have the worst luck ever in this game?

I have to say that too many comments on here bash how this game plays. Its really not that bad. It all depends on the person playing and their game style. I say this because I have absolutely none of the issues with this game that other have had. I think this game is by far the best NHL game EVER..yup better than 2k8 I mean its not even close. Any way you want to improve your goalie and how they play. Here is my super SIMPLE advice for you and an explanation as to why everyone else bashes this game.

1. LEARN TO PLAY DEFENSE - I can tell you that the people playing this game love online end to end goal fests.. Sorry I am strictly offline player as online is only for players who want there goal scoring glory they couldn't reach in real life because defensemen like myself lit them up and this is their only glory now. Online players do not know how to play defensively.

2. BACK CHECK- Hit the X button on the guy your supposed to cover. Yeah you might get a penalty but its better than giving up a cheap rebound goal.

3. CLEAR OUT THE FRONT OF YOUR NET - your goalie will stop most everything he see minus the deflected shots.

4. PICK ONE POSITION - Learn to play 1 position. Learn where you need to be, when to be there, who your supposed to cover.

Those will help any player get better

Here is my goalie advice

Having read almost every post in the slider section I can only give you one suggest for the goalies. With my slider set(combination of 3-4 sets) I have come to this conclusion

Sliders=BOOST to either CPU/HUM

so for goalies here is what I use and let me tell you the goalies are amazing one game and terrible other games.

GOALIE PASSING = O - sorry goalies in the NHL vary rarely pass.

COVER PUCK - 5 - Makes sense with passing a 0 and you wont have those goals where your goalie scores on his own net and send the puck over the glass.

GOALIE SCREEN EFFECT - 4 for both - again every goalie cant stop everything. So this will help with the true screen goals..

GOALIE REACTION SPEED - 0 for both - makes the goalies play at the rating level. Example - LUNDQUIST is better then THEODORE and rightfully so.

Like I said you will have games where you run around and the CPU torches you but if you eliminate some of that and play solid D the games will get better.

I play as the Bruins and when the wingers fly down the boards and get pasted by Chara or Boychuk they start dumping it in.. You will see give it a chance.. If you want my sliders I can write then down and send them to you to try...'

Hope this helps!!

Re: Do I have the worst luck ever in this game?

Its not just NHL. I see complaining on this site and IRL about FIFA and NBA2K as well.

All three of these games are solid gameplay wise AI needs improvement but the the next gen is here now rather than later.

People need to learn how to play defense as a foundation for creating your offense.

What is the point of adding all these new defensive strategies/forechecking to make teams play different if no one is taking advantage of it?

If you have problems letting goals in dont blame the goalie understand the defensive strategy the team uses. If you cant understand it YouTube is your friend.

I work at the United Center and it pisses me off when bandwagon Blackhawks fans have no appreciation for the sport when they get upset about them setting up in the offensive zone and passing for a shot. Or waiting to start a rush when the line changes with the puck in their on zone. They expect the game too be up and down slapshot fest IRL so I can see how it translates into playing the videogame.

I challenge half of the online cronies too an offline game sitting next too me and watch them be amazed at my Hockey IQ and get locked down at 25 shots or less.
