Huge pet peeve, maybe I'm missing something.

I'm playing Be A GM, off-season rolls around and I'm looking to sign new players and resign old players. I think my RW position is set but I find out he's no longer on my roster! I'm guessing he retired since he wasn't on my resign list or in free agency but a notification that he retired would be nice. Is there a way to see if people retire? Preferably before or during the resigning period.
