How to Improve Shooting

I originally posted this in the EA Forums but received almost no feedback. So is thought I'd being it here to see what you guys think. Bare with me some of the photos are different styles but they are strictly here to represent the size of the net as the player would see it.

Shooting in the NHL series is inconsistent to say the least for the most part there is very little difference between Bergeron and Ovechkin when it comes to shooting. I would like to know what we as a community think would improve the shooting Mechanic. Here is what I think would be the best way to go about it

I like the right and left stick mechanics for shooting and aiming so I would not change those though I would make them more dynamic.

As we know the player can view a replay and can see two icons of the left and right analog sticks that track where the player moved his sticks during that portion of the replay. For the sake of this thread I will stick to the left (aiming) analog stick. I replace the current analog stick icon with an icon of a hockey net.

Now imagine that the picture in its entirety was the icon and the player could use the stick to aim anywhere in the picture. This would be the size of the icon for the average shooter right in front of the net.

The player would probably hit the net more often than not but there is enough space to hit the post or miss entirely.

If you were to take that same shooter and move him to the blue line his target would be much smaller and then so would the left stick icon.

The shooter has much more room for error this effects the player by not allowing he to completely use the boundaries of the left stick to pick any corner, the player would have to sensitively uses the stick to hit the target. This would also allow a player shooting from the blue line to intentionally shoot wide for a rebound.

What if a player would like to shoot from the side boards? The icon will track the position of the net on the ice in relation to player.

Accuracy and Hotspots will play a role in shooting of course. Players with a higher accuracy will have a bigger net than those who have worse accuracy. We've how big the net would be for an average shooter from the blue but of course there are exceptions. A Brent Burns would be more accurate than the average shooter from the point and a Brooks Orpik would be far worse.

As far as hot spots I would give it to a handful of players who are just absolutely devastating from those spots. Like Ovechkin from the the left dot or Stamkos from the off angle. The net icon in those instances would be zoomed in as opposed to just bigger. The zoom would give the player less room to miss and make the target bigger from that particular angle larger.

I think the change in shooting would be beneficial to enhancing the games gun factor. Like any good game it gives good players the tools to succeed and doesn't let random equations decide everything.

What do you all think? How can we improve shooting?
