You have a choice of being an online player (and dealing with the exploits and the players who only play with top players) or be happy with offline modes that only offer interests for a month or two.

I appreciate the series like NBA 2k, the Show, WWE and even Madden (with its CFM changes and formation subs), that encourage long term play for offline players and are interested in having offline players play their game through its entire life cycle.

I'll say this: I think we've been patient. I think we've earned the right to complain. We've been told that the earliest we will see a universe/franchise mode is UFC 4 (assuming that is made) and given the current schedule......thats 2019-2020.

What sucks is I'll continue to support the game because MMA is my favorite sport and I'm hopeful the game will continue to improve. Maybe they will add features to custom events.

Most of us will probably do the same. We've created charts and spreadsheets and will keep on doing our thing. It just sucks that we have to do it.
We probably won't get universe mode till UFC 4, What??????!!!!!!! That is super weak. W've been patient this whole time and there is no excuses on their part.

Have they said that?

EA UFC is already the most bareboned and offers the least longevity of all of the sports games that I play. A story mode (even if it's the most amazing story mode we've ever seen in all of sports gaming) doesn't change that.

There's only so much fight, train, fight again, train again, that you can do before it becomes repetitive. Even if they add in a narrative I just don't see it being much different than what we've seen for the past decade in fighting games. Right now without a "franchise mode" they're basically 20 years behind all other sports games mode wise. I'm just hoping that they will add something before it's too late. The least they could do is make career mode fully playable.

Nothing official but read between the lines. Jazz posted this here:

"All I want is to make a great Career Mode."

When I said that career mode is a short term mode he said:

"Except the numbers don't support that direction right now. No one is saying Universe Mode is a bad idea, but getting to a point where I am concerned with extending long-term engagement with offline modes would be champagne problems. First thing's first -- let's make a kick-*** Career Mode

Now that isnt confirmation that there wont be a universe mode in the next version.....but come on.

I interpret that as "we think universe is a good idea but the numbers dont support going in that direction right now".

Assuming that there will be a new game (everything is pointing that there is a new one coming), do those statements above make you confident a universe mode is coming to UFC 3?

Maybe this is an option. That would be a good consolation prize.

sounds like they are aiming for the easy approach, the career mode jump improvement from 1 to 2 wasnt even that great, AI only picked up towards the end but still is very lackluster.

Im scared they will put all eggs in one basket again and have another bad career mode, im sure they can do a universe mode and still improve career mode. The main game modes should be:

Career
Ultimate team
Ranked play
Universe Mode

These should be the core modes that should be focused on heavily for ea ufc 3.

Re: For the love of Humanity, We Need A Universe Mode.

I feel bad for the guys like aholbert32 who have to play this game offline with nothing much to do but event mode. I just don't understand the logic EA uses sometimes in there sports games. It's the same thing Rory golf is going through right now. That game is also pretty bare bones after they changed the name from tiger woods golf.

NHL hockey is also getting pretty boring now over the last few years. To me it's only madden and Fifa that the time and effort goes into the most. Hopefully UFC 3 can prove us all wrong.

Side Note: If the AI is still bad then all that effort in the career mode will be for waste. There's no point playing a great career mode or universe mode if the AI is still this bad when the game comes out again.

This. I have Rory for free because of EA Access and I bought the last Tiger Woods because its much deeper offline.

They will likely go the story mode route. Here are the reasons:

- EA has been hyping Frostbite and its capabilities when it comes to story modes. An example of this is FIFA's story mode.

- EA execs have been quoted as saying they would like to see similar modes in other EA Sports games.

- Some of the members of this team worked on the last combat sports game that had a story mode, Fight Night Champion.

- Its the easiest way to make a splash with a career mode and its something that reviewers would see as a huge leap from UFC2.

This is just a guess though. They could easily go the other way and add elements that EA MMA/UD3 had (Interviews, Training at different camps, fighting on non-UFC cards) etc.

My question for you guys is.....do any of these improvements make you play career mode more than once?
I won't even play it once. I pop in a sports game, I go straight to Franchise Mode and I literally play nothing else.
