Re: Ranked play.

Mirror matches would be deathly boring (as a good chunk of what makes MMA exciting are the stylistic clashes), but a randomizer that gave you different guys would result in some extremely unfair matchups between two evenly-skilled players. So I vote no to this.

I'm open to the idea of stat equalization, but I'm concerned you'd really water down the individual playstyles and distinct characteristics of each fighter that way. In my ideal vision of the game, there is a large pool of viable fighters in each division, each of whom must be used to his or her real life strengths.

In UFC2, the amount of competitively viable characters wasn't very high, especially in certain divisions. This had a lot to do with how the stat allocation made fighters either great or obsolete in ways that even the best players couldn't work around.

Re: Ranked play.

I think its a horrible idea. For sure they can make a non-ranked mode like this, but to make whole ranked entirely like this - no thanks.

I want to be able to choose myself which fighter I use and to specialize in certain fighters, moving up in ranked using them. I want to be able to choose myself whether I feel like grappling or standing up in my match. I wouldn't play that mode 100 percent.

Re: Ranked play.

What about a system like this:

1) Pick up to 3 potential fighters per weight class.

2) Select 1 of those 3 fighters to be automatically picked, depending on the opponent's fighters selection.

3) Join the matchmaking queue.

__________________________________________________ __

For Example:

- I want to play on the Light Heavyweight & the Heavyweight division.

- My priority goes as following: 1) Mike Tyson 2) Anderson Silva) 3) Jon Jones.

- My pick rules for Light Heavyweight & Heavyweight:

*Pick Mike Tyson, unless the opponent picks: a)Daniel Cormier, b) Jon Jones, c) Werdum, d) Velasquez, e) Gustaffson, ... z)Stefan Struve .

*Pick Anderson Silva, unless the opponent picks: a) Jon Jones, b) Daniel Cormier.

*Pick Jon Jones if none of the above criteria is met.

__________________________________________________ ______

- Opponent found with possible picks: 1)Werdum, 2) Velasquez, 3)Jon Jones.

- Opponent's Heavyweight pick rules:

* Pick Werdum, unless opponent picks: a)Werdum, b) Jon Jones

* Pick Velasquez unless the opponent picks: a) Daniel Cormier

* Pick Jon Jones on any other case.

When we get matchmaked, the fight will be Jon Jones vs Jon Jones.

__________________________________________________ ______

It goes without saying, that we would need some profiles, that we could pre-make and edit whenever we want, depending on our mood of fighter choice and not waste time making them each time.

People want complete control over who they select. They dont want to lose because the game gave them Frankie Saenz 3 out of 5 times and opponents got fighters like Dillashaw and Cruz.

People are afraid to change. If everyone got the same style of matchmaking, they should realize that.

Re: Ranked play.

The only way I could ever see myself having fun with this kind of idea is if it were along the lines of what manliest said. Let me build a stable of say 5 guys/girls per division and it randomly chooses one of those. Let me alter my stable any time I want to and I could maybe see my self having fun with the random style matchmaking. That might make it sort of fun, but I would much rather just pick my fighter and go. When playing buddies on the couch I typically go random anyway, but we make sure we have a good fight/match up before we progress. We don't do true random. If I land on a low teir fighter that I like I'll stick with him and he will keep going random til he finds a good match up. So IF the game were to do something like this, hopefully there would be an algorithm that is smart enough to make good match ups.

It’s not being afraid of change. They just may not like that idea.

Re: Ranked play.

So after thinking about this for a minute, let me throw out my idea for forcing people to play with fighters they otherwise wouldn't. It follows a progression system similar to what we have today in UFC 2. You fight a couple of fights and on wins you make it to the title match. So my idea would be everyone starts on a preliminary level. So we are talking about lower tier fighters only that you can choose from. Think prelim cards for events. You have a couple of those then you move up to the main card. Now you can only choose from mid tier to higher tier guys depending on where you land on the card or in this case how many fights you have won. Then you get to the co-main, then main event tier. Main event being where you fight for the title. You stay in that tier until you lose and start over at preliminary. Might not be a popular idea, due to not being able to play with your favorite fighter right away, but much better than the original idea proposed here and accomplishes a similar goal.
