This patch has solidified EA UFC 3 as the GOAT

Between contextual grappling, vulnerability systems, block breaking, advanced AI, open weight tournaments, sliders, and defensive footwork mechanics, I don't want to hear another word about UD3 being better. I see it constantly on here, EA UFC facebook post comments, and YouTube videos. Besides for game modes like ultimate fights title mode and pride, UFC3 is head and shoulders above UD3 in terms of realism striking and grappling. That doesn't mean we shouldn't take a thing or two from UD3s clinch and fluidity between striking and grappling however. Those are still very good. But I think the argument has finally laid to rest

I feel like that argument will never be laid to rest until there is nothing gameplay wise UD3 has over EA UFC. There are still a few things UD3 has over this game right now, mostly in the grappling department. Just to name a few, more grappling positions on cage and ground, interactive tko states, rocked states on ground, driving td's, different types of td animations, guard pulling for certain fighters in clinch, more fluid clinch locomotion, ect. When EA UFC finally takes these area's, then I feel it will finally be over. At that point ppl bringing it up will only be doing it cuz of nostalgia.

Re: This patch has solidified EA UFC 3 as the GOAT

I think that WarMMA pretty much just hit the nail on the head. The debate for which MMA game is the greatest will probably never die,no matter what improvements are made. A lot of it is probably due to nostalgia, much like how some people will always say that MVP 2005 is the best baseball game ever and NFL 2K5 is the greatest football game ever, etc. It's strange in the UFC3/Undisputed 3 debate because it's almost like in every area one of the games is weak in,the other excels in. Undisputed 3 had pretty stiff and robotic stand up, but it's grappling, clinching, and ground and pound were top notch, and these are the very areas where most of us feel EA UFC 3 is the weakest. So it's very hard to name one the GOAT,when we really haven't had an MMA game that put it all together, did everything amazing. I think what we have now is an amazing product that has come a long, long ways in terms of where it was at on release, and I think it'll be an amazing base for UFC 4 to build off of. I think if forward progress continues to be made off of what is already there and they don't scrap the things that work well(ragdoll KOs,I'm looking at you!), I think UFC 4 has the potential to blow us all away,I really do. But I definitely do not see the debate on the MMA GOAT video game going away anytime soon,if ever. In my mind I would have it as a draw because both games have their strengths and weaknesses so I don't see a clear cut winner.

1. This game still with the patch is insanely frustrating. On some level we have just gotten use to it.

2. UD3 had a bunch of issues

3. EA3 is the better overall game

4. EA3 is partly frustrating because some of the things in UD3 which was 3 MMA games ago on another console are still not in EA3

Aspect that were in previous games still not in this one
Improved Takedown vs Striking balance
PRIDE mode
cage positions
Saved event modes
ground sways
parries
better submission switching
strike feint on the ground.
butterfly guard
Compotent AI (in fairness I havent played the AI in recent patch)

on top of that....it has not advanced the idea of a Universe Mode which has been asked for since UD3

side bar - NFL2k was the best football game ever made, MVP 05 is not the best baseball game.

First step for EA is creating a completed game. I feel we all just paid to do beta testing for a game. EA4 should have no excuses. To me they have only a few things to concentrate on.

1. more fighter individuality
2. better more diverse grappling
3. balance takedowns
4. UNIVERSE MODE!!!!

Ea ufc 3 is vastly superior at this point and its just a meme to say ud3 is better. This is coming from someone who loved ud3, we have a tendency to look back at older games and make them better than what they were

Gameplay feels great ATM. Only issue is lack of game modes at Online.

Re: This patch has solidified EA UFC 3 as the GOAT

Yes it’s the best MMA game to date, better than Undisputed 3. But it’s still lacking major things that Undisputed 3 had, such as a fully decked out cage wrestling system, being able to transition into a body triangle, takedowns directly into backside, being able to transition to DOM side control from DOM back side, a way better GnP system, and a deeper array of options on the ground, which were personalized to the fighter you picked.

Being said, the striking on EA UFC 3 is far better. The gameplay is more functional and balanced. And even the grappling is coming along (still some major issues though, like the lack of a cage seated position, inability to hold someone in your guard without reversing them, inability to re-shoot from cage clinch, limited options after taking opponents back, weird GnP system, etc.)

“Better” is a bad word to use. I mean, Undisputed 3 would be terrible by today’s standards just based on its graphics and visual presentation.

The best way to put it, is that EA UFC 3 has gaping holes in areas that UD3 already did right. And these are essential elements of an MMA game that should never have been eliminated in the first place.

I’m talking quintessential aspects of MMA grappling like a fully functional cage wrestling system, the ability to transition into a body triangle, knees from back side, TDs directly into back side, head movement on the ground, etc.
