Well I literally just started playing. I just started a “fight now” match, and immediately went for a takedown and am now on the mat. After about 5 minutes of fooling around with STRICTLY mat grappling, I can say the following with a healthy degree of disappointment:


1. All the “standard” animations are the same as UFC3. The pass from FG to HG, from HG to Mount or SC, etc. is the exact same. Even the base animation where neither fighter is doing anything is identical to UFC 3.

Visually, someone looking over my shoulder right now would have a hard time telling the difference between this and UFC 3. Even the grapple HUD and yellow circle filling look identical.

Now, there ARE new transitions, animations and positions. For example, moving from mount to sidecontrol is now totally new. There are also new positions entirely. I’m just talking about the base, standard animations - those are all recycled.

2. Transition faking is visually and strategically identical to UFC 3. Looks the exact same, accomplishes the exact same thing (awards grapple advantage), and will likely become the meta in the exact same way.


3. Denials and reversals are still not separated. Meaning, a well-timed denial will award you with a sweep. So in other words, it’s still not possible to hold someone in your guard. Because if you try to deny their transition, you will automatically take top position.

Yeah im not getting this game.. who in that company thinks these knockdowns look better then ragdolls that work great 90% of the time? No follow up strikes on the ground...I'm guessing this dev cycle has like 30 man team on it and this is all they could muster

So is there only 2 clinch positions or what? I get in that first position when you initiate clinch. And I can transition to the other one but that's it. Can't move from there. Just throw punches and knees from there until it breaks.

Edit: yeah I think collar tie and single under are the only 2. You can move to the back during takedowns.

Weird thats all we can do in the clinch.

Clinch positions off the cage (depending on what you define as clinch):

collar tie
thai
over under
back clinch
standing guillotine
back pack
all the catch kick positions.

There are double under trips, but no double under position.

Add follow up strikes after a ground ko.And add more ragdoll effect they didn't get a massive overhaul. As well as up the blood effects because right now there is next to none
