UEFA CUP FINAL PREVIEW
BORDEAUX VS. GENOA CFC

The stage is set for the final championship of the year to be decided when Genoa CFC faces French power Bordeaux in the UEFA Cup Final.

For Genoa, the season has been a disappointment in league play as they have battled in the relegation zone for the majority of the year. It has been quite the opposite for Bordeaux as they currently sit in 2nd place in Ligue One right behind Lyon. Both teams have 71 points but Lyon leads on goal differential.

The key for Genoa in this match will be to get off to the quick start that they have seen in their recent run of good form. The team will also need to remain focused for the entire match. Genoa have lost numerous games this year with a lead in the second half.

There will be no margin for error for the port side team as Bordeaux is loaded with world class players. Look for Cavenaghi and Chamakh to play with great pace up front with Jussie, Alonso, and Gouffran setting them up. The back line for the French side is playing as well as anyone right now with Diawara and Planus at CB and Chalme and Placente at FB.

Inexperience will not help the Rossoblu in this match either. We have received word that Michelino Lugano, the 17 year old wonder prospect will be in the starting lineup at his normal CMF position.

Genoa will start with their base 3-4-3 formation with Sculli, Greco, and Palladino up front, Mesto, Modesto, Olivera, and Lugano in the mid field, and Biava, Sokratis, and Potenza at the back.

UEFA CUP FINAL
BORDEAUX VS. GENOA
STADIO OLIMPICO

FIRST HALF GOALS LEAD BORDEAUX TO 2-0 CUP WIN!

ROME, ITA.- The quick start that the Rossoblu hoped for never came as Bordeaux tallied two goals in the first 20 minutes and held Genoa at bay for the entire game with a padlock style defense that the Italian teams have made famous.

Genoa's only threat to score came in the 10th minute when the young Lugano stole the ball from Planus deep in the Bordeaux half. Lugano dribbled into the box with only the keeper to beat but was unable to get the shot on net.

Three minutes later Cavenaghi scored his first goal of the game when he received a great cross from Alonso. Cavenaghi right footed the ball past Robihno and Bordeaux had the breakthrough.

Cavenaghi waited only four minutes to tally his second goal. Another perfect cross from Alonso, but this time Cavenaghi headed the ball past Robihno for the last goal of the game.

For his two goals Cavenaghi was awarded Man of the Match.

MATCH DAY 38
SAMPDORIA VS. GENOA
"THE GENOA DERBY"

SAMPDORIA EASILY TAKES DERBY

GENOA,ITA.-In the 75th minute the shouts were heard around the stadium as the fans collectively called for the head of Genoa manager Gian Piero Gasperini. Club president Enrico Preziosi was seen leaving the stadium shortly thereafter. It seems that the sack is on it's way.

In a less than inspiring effort Genoa's last loss of the 2008-09 season may have been it's most painful as the il grifone (the Griffin) lost to local rivals Sampdoria 3-1.

Genoa took an early 1-0 lead on Greco's goal, but Sampdoria answered twice before the break and again in the 54th.

Genoa would never come close again and the 2008-09 season ends with 3 straight losses. Genoa finished the season in 18th place just 3 points behind 17th place Lecce.

Great..I stayed with Bolton through the transfer period and got to play in the 3rd game of my second season. I scored a goal and made nice passes and a couple of nice tackles. I ended up with an 8.0. NEXT THING YOU KNOW...I'M IN THE STARTING ELEVEN!!!

8.0, nice Saint!

I got through my second year with Wigan, started most of the season at AMF, 2nd most goals on the team and with 5 games to go I get sent back to the practice squad. Was pretty bummed about it, but in the off season I got offers from 6 clubs and took up Vitassee and moved leagues.

Made the bench by 7th game (2 goal inter-squad match helped I think, first time I've done that) and that's where I'm at now, in my 3rd year.

I have a hard time putting the game down, and I really know nothing about soccer. Loving it.

Yeah..that was pretty cool. I got a 7.0 the next match. So far in the new season I've got 2 goals from the CMF position. But my last two games I stunk and got 5.0, and then a 6.0.
