Sounds like the truth was stranger than fiction. According to forensic reports, Hackman's wife Betsy died on Jan 11/12 from a lung infection that resulted from contracting hantavirus (!!) and Hackman himself died from heart failure on Jan 18. (They were found on Jan 26.) Because Hackman was suffering from late-stage Alzheimer's, it's speculated that either he wasn't completely aware of his wife's death or that it was too much for him to cope with. The dead dog had been crated and presumably died of thirst. Awful stuff.

I was curious too. According to one Swedish study, parts of a body can begin to mummify anywhere between three to six days and a whole body can show signs of mummification as soon as eighteen days.

Re: Gene Hackman and wife found dead in Santa Fe home; he was 95.

Gene Hackman was one of the greatest actors to ever walk this planet, and one of my all time favorite actors.

While it's a shame how he died, I choose to try to focus on his amazing movies.

While everyone has heard of the greatest western Hollywood has ever produced, Unforgiven, be sure to check out his lesser known, cautionary tale of how paranoia can destroy a man in The Conversation

Check it out, a minimal movie with Gene, in a small apartment, looking for a wiretap that he is sure is there in his apartment

Is he right, or is he going mad?

Movie Title: The Conversation
Year: 1974
Director: Francis Ford Coppola
Genre: Neo-noir mystery thriller
Plot: Hackman plays Harry Caul, an audio-surveillance expert who faces a moral dilemma when his recordings reveal a potential murder plot.

RIP Big Fella, you were indeed building a house
