Good internet that is cheap?

Hey whats going on everybody? Forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask.

I'm thinking about switching to a cheaper internet service so I can save a little more money each month. I'm currently using my local cable and internet provider and it costs around $40 a month.

A couple guys I work with said they are using AOL and that is only $10 a month for them. They said its a little slower than when they had cable. But, thought it worked just as good.

So, I was wondering what you guys like to use or think is good.

Re: Good internet that is cheap?

As far as I know AOL is dial-up. Which requires a phone line to use. Dial-up is WAY slower than cable internet.

I could be wrong and missing an AOL service seeing as it's been atleast10 years since I last used them.

Also, Not sure if you are into Online Gaming, I am not sure you can get on any of the next gen networks with dial up. I know you can't with 360.

Dial up is a lot faster then what it was 10 years ago. Since maybe 5 people in the entire world still use it, all the lines are open.

I work with a broadcasting crew and some football stadiums we were in only had dial up. Still able to put out 2 channel audio and browse the internet from 1 computer.

Re: Good internet that is cheap?

Thanks for the info ollie. Like I said, I've not used AOL in forever.

Still, I don't think you can do the console thing, so if he needs/wants that he doesn't have many options.

The best thing to do is grab a promotional and then when your term is close to up, talk to someone in their sales dept. Use leverage by indicating that you're considering going to another service provider. If it is a package that involves TV cable, indicate you're thinking about an alternate cable or satellite provider. I mean think about it..... if they have services that have rates set in stone, then why do they have a sales dept.?

Dial up is still brutally slow (my grandparents had it when I was living with them for a month in late 06 and some of 07).

While it may be more capable of running the websites from 1998 than it was back then, flash animation and pictures murdered it.

True, I doubt you will be able to load up ESPN. There is always using mobile sites though, especially good for things like myspace.
