Spiderman was fine, but lost its way. It was popular only a few years ago, and Sony probably focused too much on making money from it. How's that gonna change much now? Raimi's out because he didn't want to do a script that is rumored to suck ***, and have it done by next year. So now they throw it back in high school, how edgy!

It was really just a joke, but what I meant by it was getting as much realism/darkness out of the guy as possible, while still getting some solidity within the original Spider-Man. I just absolutely love what he did with Batman is all, and I expect he can really adapt any original piece into gold.

But again, all in good fun. I just don't want to see Raimi re-hash his idea of Spider-Man again.

The fans share some of the blame in the downfall of the Spider-man franchise. Sure no fan gets final say on anything, but ever since the first film was announced messageboards are screaming for Venom, to the point where Sony forced the character into the third film and failed horribly. And this is coming from someone who grew up with Venom as his favorite comic book character.

I'm fine with a "re-boot," though I hate the term. I should say, I'm fine with it so long as its done properly. I, and no one else, needs another super hero origin movie. We all know how Spider-man came to be, if necessary toss in a flash-back or something, but this movie needs to kick off with Spidey as Spidey. I like the high school setting because its been proven to work really well through Ultimate Spider-man and the Spectacular Spider-man show. And I hope whoever is writing it ditches this awful trend with superhero movies where each film needs a new villain. Don't kill off the villains! Nolan had the right idea with The Dark Knight, unfortunately Heath Ledger's passing derailed that and I think that's what has so far caused a lot of the apprehension on Nolan's part to return to the franchise.

If it were up to me to draft a screenplay for a new Spider-man (and good thing it isn't, I'd probably do a terrible job) I would try to create multiple angles of conflict for the two protagonists, Peter Parker and Spider-man. I think Kingpin is a good villain, because he presents a monumental challenge for a "kid" like Spider-man. A love interest is an almost necessity (I'd opp for Gwen) and throw in Black Cat for Spider-man just to give Peter some confused emotions. Above all, seeds need to be planted to build upon if Sony wants to create another franchise. Don't give us everything on one film. Have Peter fall for Gwen, but pull back on the pay-off for another film. That way it has more impact, and then Venom or someone can kill her in the third! And speaking of Venom, he should resurface but done right, with Eddie Brock being introduced in the first film so we can watch his hate build. And might as well do things differently and not have Parker ever wear the black suit, otherwise audiences will feel like they've seen it before (which we have, in the comics, the ultimate comics, the 90's cartoon, the 00's cartoon, and the films).

In some ways it seems simple, but really this is going to be a tall task. Sony needs to get the right people involved to make a really good movie. Yes sequels need to be considered from the get-go, but not at the expense of the first film. We need a complete and enriching story as I think a new Spider-man will be a tough sell for a lot of the general audience that made the first three such monster financial success stories. And by following up a recently done trilogy, Sony can't just rest its laurels on the tried and true Spidey stories, they're going to have to dig deeper into the comics or (and here's a novel concept) come up with fresh ideas on their own.

IMO we need a Deadpool movie before we need a Spiderman movie.

I believe Fox has the rights for Deadpool, so a new Spider-man movie won't affect any plans for a Deadpool film. Ryan Reynolds playing the Green Lantern might though.
