I do have an EVGA water cooled GPU though but that is all self contained and I didn't have to do any running pipes or whatever.

I don't want to deal with the maintenance of a custom loop. This is my second AIO and so far so good. I love making my builds look nice and I don't like the look of a lot of air coolers especially with a tempered glass side panel. I do like the Cryorig air coolers though. I want to do a loop one day. Won't be any time soon.

You didn’t look at any AOI water coolers? Same deal as the GPU.

I'm thinking about building this rig. It will help me significantly for one of the games that I play in VR. My question is how well could it play games in 4k? Thanks for any responses.

Not super sure but I think you'll need a 1070 or better to beat out a xbox one x

Really depends on the game, but with that rig your not going to be consistently hitting 60FPS. In fact 30 might be a more realistic figure for demanding games

If you really want to do 4K gaming correct right now, ya need a 1080ti and even that gets squeezed

You need a 1080Ti and also a beefier power supply as well to do 4K.

An Xbox One X GPU is basically a AMD RX 480 or Nvidia 1060 (XBox One X GPU is 11% faster than an RX 480. So in gaming terms, damn near all new GPU's are faster than an Xbox One X lol

RX 580
Vega 56
Vega 64

GTX 1060 6Gb
GTX 1070
GTX 1070 Ti
GTX 1080
GTX 1080 Ti

Now for your question, the 970 you currently have would run comparable frame rate wise with an RX 480 which is on the low side of gaming GPU's. An RX 480 runs in the $200 range while a mid range card will run $350s (1070) and high end cards start around $450 (1070ti & 1080) Yet that is in a perfect environment, you have other issues.

1) Your running an 8 year old CPU, your proc speeds are slower than the Xbox One X and will be the bottle neck point. This will cause your frames to be lower than what the 970 can theoretically do.

2) Your GTX 970 GPU only has 4GB of ram, where the Xbox One X is using a combination of 12 GBs shared via GPU and system. A GPU in this day and age under 6GB just won't cut it anymore. You need minimum of 16GB system memory and 8GB GPU memory in 2018.

So my point, you could upgrade your GPU and your frames would increase but your selling the hardware short because your bottle necking at the CPU. You need a Proc, Mobo, Ram, GPU, rebuild in my opinion.
