Then you will probably enjoy season 3. So far, it's seeming almost like a 'reboot' of season 1.

Still doesn't have the dynamic duo of Woody and Matthew though.

I might wait a while to get streaming HBO and then watch it all at once.

Mahershala Ali and Stephen Dorff have excellent on-screen chemistry.

Yeah, I would actually say the 2 leads in the current season are as good if not better than Woody and McConnaughey, to be honest. I'm surprised by how well the 2 leads work together (mostly because I didn't really know either of them that well prior to this).

The acting isn't the problem. I would agree that if you're gonna do it, just wait until the whole season is available to stream all at once. Otherwise, you end up frustrated that things are going nowhere fast (actually, things are going nowhere really slowly....). It's really starting to feel like they're stretching a pretty thin story into an obligatory 8 episodes because that's how many they were contracted to produce, not because the narrative requires 8 episodes to tell. It also suffers from a lot of withholding of backstory just for the sake of rationing it out over the episodes, rather than because the plot demands it.

All in all, it's a really slow burn. Really slow. If you embark, you're watching it because of the acting, not because of the plot. For some people, it's worth it. For me....I think the jury is still out.

Re: True Detective - Season 3

Just watched episodes 4, 5, 6 over the last couple days. Let’s just say it picks up.

I love this series again and it feels so good. Ali and Dorff kill it as 3 different versions of themselves. We’ll see what happens the last 2 episodes to conclude the season.

The last 2 episodes really have to deliver here for this all to be worth it. That's where season 1 fell down in the end; all that build up led to a very weak and formulaic conclusion. I'm hoping they figure out how to make this conclusion worthwhile.

Re: True Detective - Season 3

Might be one of the best season finales I've ever seen.
