Re: James Caan dies at 82

So sad.

I'm not a movie person by any means, but James Caan stars in two of my all time favorite movies, The Godfather and Elf.

RIP

Brian's Song, Killer Elite, Rollerball and a good portrayal of a compulsive gambler in The Gambler. Maybe his greatest performance in Misery.

Time flies by. I remember reading an article on him where he says he's not a kid anymore (he was 35).

RIP Jimmy.

Got pretty hosed in the Godfather. They cut so much of Sonnys parts out.

Really enjoyed him on the small screen in Las Vegas.

I don't know about hosed. The part rocketed his 70's career. He had significant scenes throughout the film (The Sollozzo meeting, Beating up Carlo, It's strictly business, his death).

The guy that played Carlo said that Caan and him never got along and that he suffered two cracked ribs and other injuries in their "one-sided fight scene".

They literally cut out half of his character from the book. The extended versions are a much more balanced portrayal than just a philandering hothead.

.. Gianni Russo (Carlo) had real mob ties, allegedly.

I didn't dispute scenes getting cut, just acknowledged that his career went on steroids after the movie. At nearly three hours something has to go.
