If EA was smart they'd charge Sege

Wouldn't it be a good move on EA's part to charge Sega to use the NFL's licensed stuff?? Regardless of the exclusivity deal Madden is still gonna sell like crazy, it always does. And by doing that they won't piss off the hardcore 2k fans, and they'll make money. It just seems that would make more sense that monopolizing the NFL gaming.... I dunno just a hopeful thought

Some people feel that EA is already being smart by knocking the competition out of the game. No need to sell them the license when you can grab the money from all of the sales of the competition. I understand your point. In a perfect business world, that would be grand. An example would be, if there is a street with 10 restaurants, and ALL of them are doing well with each owner is getting rich, one would think that all of them could coexist in harmony. But when some want the WHOLE pie all to themselves, then the cutthroats come out. Madden has been a cash cow for years. Feeling the heat from its competitors, EA decided to take the whole pie. Being rich apparantly is not enough. Filthy and obscenely rich is the goal. The rich get richer. Speaking of filthy rich, the interesting thing in all this is waiting to see what Microsoft does.

... in addition the NFL won't allow EA to sell the license to other companies.

Yeah that's a real good point. I just think it would be better for everybody if they would do something along those lines to allow other companies to produce a game with the advantage of official NFL teams/players. But I'm not Mr. EA Sports, so we can only hope to be so fortunate :

Exactly ForeverYoung, EA only has the rights to use the license, they do not own it, hence, they cannot license it out to other companies.

The ONLY hope of seeing an ESPN NFL 2K6 is if EA is able to get publishing rights to release the game from Sega/Take-Two. Which won't happen for many reasons.

also you have to realize by this move, ea is not simply trying to make more money down the line, they are trying to obliterate every other source of competition. so, your proposal is not a realistic one even if it was possible.

Actually, EA is ONLY trying to make more money down the line. I agree with you though, EA publishing an ESPN NFL title is not going to happen, I was just pointing out that that is the only way one will be released next year.
