Re: What I like best about the franchise mode..
2K5 franchise was good, but I swear, every year it would be something VC would do that would screw with things...
In 2K5, the first round drafting glitch is awful. Only drafting QB's and RB's and T's, etc...is terrible. You either have to draft a QB or whoever to keep it "even" or you end up drafting the best player available on the board at number 29 in the first round because no team will draft, say, a SS.
Another thing that really bothered me were roster moves. I couldn't stand how, after a year or two, Peyton Manning would somehow be playing for the Chiefs. Sometimes they'd tell you of a trade, but other times he'd just be miraclously on their team. Or Ray Lewis would be in free agency. Or some other great player would get traded. These over the top transactions bothered me, too.
I liked the Sportscenter highlights and all, but after a while, it got old. I guess that's bound to happen when you are recycling old highlights.
I definitely liked the idea of backload/frontloading contracts, and the idea that the salary cap penalty was based upon how much extra signing bonus money was left over a certain amount of contract years...BUT, you could always get away with this by just NEVER giving any player any signing bonus. It's such a cheap yet effective way to do things. I guess you could just say, "don't do it." And you are right. But it shouldn't have been possible in the first place. Players would never sign a 6 year deal with a zero signing bonus, so why make it even possible in the game?
There were also issues with your incoming rookies...for example, they automatically say the guys' names. However, let's say I want my rookie to wear a dark visor. If I go in and tweak his uniform, the announcers won't say his last name all of the sudden. So then you have to enter a new last name in the database that's recognized. Great, the game announcers now say his last name, but Chris Berman in the halftime/postgame highlights calls him "number 34."
It was things like this that got on my nerves, franchise-wise.
