Offsetting penalties glitch

dont remember this bug being mentioned ever, but ive seen it now in Exhib & multiple franchises w/ different base rosters, so i'm confident it is just how the game treats the following situation:

if you unjustly get called for a "pass beyond the Line of scrimmage" penalty and the opponent is called for something else (PI for example), the review will always be futile & cost you a timeout.

each time i've seen this, the replay is skipped over w/o the press of any button. it cuts straight to the "will be charged a timeout" audio and the black previous-play description window just repeats the same text as before: offsetting penalties


so dont bother reviewing it (despite the fact that 2K5 just loves to call the bogus LOS pass penalty to see if you're in fact awake)

EXACTLY why I have always played with all penalties off... except for pass interference (so that I can be flagged for it sometimes).

Actually I see your point in that the down would simply be played over. On the other hand, are there offsetting penalty situations in which your team might get penalized some yardage because the CPU's infraction wasn't as serious?

That's an easy problem to fix, don't use challenges and the ai will call the game exactly the way it's supposed to be called.

yes thank you. maybe that wasn't clear

my point was:

dont bother challenging an incorrect call AGAINST you if there was ALSO an offsetting penalty called against the opponent. a glitch will cause the ref to always rule against your challenge, & steal your timeout- even when the play should obviously be overturned in your favor.

i gave the example of the over-LOS pass penalty simply b/c 90% of the time the AI calls that penalty, your QB has definitively not crossed the line.

In fact, I'm sure if we talked to a 2K5 programmer, he/she would say exactly what I assumed: that this situation is in place to "see if youre awake" (and to enhance the challenge aspect of the game)
