Collapse / Comeback

WOW!!! I was just playing a quick game between the Colts (me) and Chargers in Indy with my 2K7 roster (2006 season) and had the biggest collapse in history. Leading 24-0 at halftime and up 31-0 with under 4 minutes left in the 3rd quarter, I simply collapsed. Below are the replays of every score and miss plus a shocker at the end. My fourth post will have details and stats and something that I have never ever done which was a positive that turned into a negative. Check out the replays first before reading my next post unless you want to get spoiled. There are 14 total replays in three posts. All the replays are numbered by order. Harrison1, Vinatieri2, etc.

Re: Collapse / Comeback

Summary
---------

I came out on fire with the Colts offensively and defensively. I scored 24 points in the first half and lead 24-0 at halftime with Manning having 3 TD passes. Defensively, I had an INT that lead to a score in the first half and 9 sacks total with 8 of them coming in the first half. 6 of the 8 first half sacks came on the first 9 plays that the Chargers had. Chargers had no first downs and negative yardage at halftime. If this was a franchise game, I wouldnt be posting any of this since I would have run the ball in the second half wasting time and coasting to an easy win.

The 3rd quarter started out right where I left off as I threw a 35 yard TD pass to Reggie Wayne to take a 31-0 lead with under 4 minutes left. But then, everything fell apart. SD started getting hot as I was missing blitzes and tackles. Tomlinson scored making it 31-7. Being pass happy and trying to run up the score and my stats, I threw an INT to CB Drayton Florence who returned it 34 yards for a TD. I come back on my next possession with a 67 yard TD rec from Manning to Harrison but that was pretty much it.

Tomlinson gets an 80 yard TD run as I blitzed and missed badly. I drive down the field but throw another INT to CB Drayon Florence who returns it 85 yards for the score. It's now 38-28 Colts. After throwing yet another INT, SD drives down to my 1 yard line but im able to stuff them three straight holding them to a 26 yard FG by Nate Kaeding. It's 38-31 Colts.

I then drive down the field for a 40 something yard FG but shank it off the right upright. SD now has possession with under a minute left in the 4th quarter. They drive down the field slightly and then Rivers hits WR Keenan McCardell with a 15 or so yard pass that turns into a 37 yard TD rec because my CB falls flat on his face going for the tackle. I'm unable to catch up and he obviously scores. It's 38-37 Colts.

Here's where the *holy crap* moment happens. On the extra point attempt which I never ever try to block, I actually take control of the DB that's to the far right. I come flying in hitting the holder who happens to be the 3rd string QB Charlie Whitehurst. He stumbles slightly and then regains his balance and runs to the left side where I try to chase him down but he dives into the endzone for a two point conversion giving the Chargers the lead 39-38.

I was shell shocked. The one and thus far only time I actually go for a block, it turns into a huge negative and the eventual game winner. I did get back the ball after the kick return and had 17 seconds left with two timeouts. My first pass was to Harrison near midfield but he was drilled and dropped the pass. Next pass was overthrown and intercepted. A knee later, I lose two leads (31-0 and 38-14) in the biggest collapse that I have ever had.

INDY is stunned as am I but thankfully, it was only an exhibition game which I usually mess around with anyway instead of trying to win a good game. Franchise, it's the opposite. I never had a *holy crap* moment in this game that was worth me saving the play but I did so I figured what the hell, I'll post it here for those who want to see it.

Re: Collapse / Comeback

lol, wow, what a meltdown. I've had some heartbreakers but never coming from ahead to lose like that. If you are like me with these games a game like that really stings even though its just a video game. But its great its sumin you'll never forget and you gotta give that game some kind of Title or Nickname to remember it by. My heart goes out to ya bud. lol
