Connect the cable to the harddrive then go to device manager and tell me what you see for other.

USB Mass Storage Device is what I see.

Then I right click and "Update Driver"

Then I say I will select the location; then I attempt to install. Then it says "There was trouble properly installing this device"

First have you tried using the Xport software with no other USB connections to your computer other then the 360 Hard drive? i.e. turn off your computer, remove all USB connections except your 360 hard drive connected by the transfer cable. Turn on your computer. Then try to use the Xport (v1.07) and see if it finds your hard drive.
