1985 Roster Update

I know most of you were still nasty thoughts in your parents' heads and only play the "here and now" rosters, but for those of us interested in the historic teams, I am just over 1/2 way done with the 1985 roster. I am taking more time, because this is supposed to be the stable roster with which I build the future years (if I don't burn out and fade away). The AFC is complete, play-tested, re-completed, and tested yet again. I have one NFC team finished, the Bears, so I thought I'd play out a few important games in 1985's history.

BEARS at DOLPHINS

I was the fins and led the game 16-7 at half. I was up 19-7 with 4 minutes remaining and finally I lost 21-19 with about :28 seconds left. Not the exact result I was shooting for, but it was a fun game.

SUPER BOWL: BEARS vs, PATRIOTS

I was the Bears for this one and treated the Pats like they deserved to be treated. It was 21-0 at half and ended 41-3, which isn't that far off the actual score of 45-3. I held the Pats to about 30 yards on the ground and Craig James and Tony Eason looked as lost as they did in '85. Whats funny is they went to the air pretty early like the Pats did in that game too and DE Richard Dent had a field day.

SIDE NOTE: Yes, if you want to, you can dive William Perry over the goal line for a touchdown. He does show up on one play in the backfield.

dammit, that was Sweetness' rightful TD-- earned through years of tough running, gritty blocking, & carrying Chicago on his back.

Re: 1985 Roster Update

I love playing with old school rosters but some of the modern stadiums kill it for me.

The Bears defeated the Patriots in Super Bowl 20 46-10.

Good correction... so I should stop writing at 1 in the morning (as the clock turns to 12:31 here).

Re: 1985 Roster Update

I didn't want to start a new thread for this:

I was watching a dvd copy of the 1985 Super Bowl today and after one of the Bears' sacks, announcer Merlon Olsen was telling an anecdote about the Rams/Bears game the week before. He said,"The Rams offense came up to the line and saw the Bears with 9 guys lined up on the other side of the line of scrimmage. Eric Dickerson walked up to QB Dieter Brock and said, 'You are going to audible, aren't you?'"

I thought that was funny. An interesting note: They said the Bears' TE Tim Wrightman was the first player to sign a contract with the USFL. He signed with the Chicago Blitz.

BTW: The 1985 roster is done! I am playtesting and revising right now.

Re: 1985 Roster Update

WOW! JUST WOW! I went to the link in the sig's and I can't believe so much is being done with just a roster file. Quite simply amazing.
