Did EA Slow Down or Even Stop The Progression in Pro Football Games?

Since EA bought the NFL License, Madden has gone down hill very fast. Even though Madden has had a big jump to being better, if the NFL 2k5 Creators were still around today, would today's pro football games be better? What do you guys think?

Re: Did EA Slow Down or Even Stop The Progression in Pro Football Games?

Competition breeds innovation. Madden has enjoyed the exclusive rights for the producing of NFL games for 5 years, and without another competing product to keep them on their heels, they can simply do the odd new animation, slight graphical upgrade, and roster update, and charge $60 every year. The need to put your best foot forward isn't there when you are the only game in town, and when you have a dedicated fanbase that, judging by the sales, is content to buy your recycled game year in, year out, why would you do anything but the most rudimentary of efforts?

So to answer the question, in my opinion yes.

Yes, EA/Tiburon killed football gaming imo.

Re: Did EA Slow Down or Even Stop The Progression in Pro Football Games?

Of course they did, but in reality it was the NFL that did it. They are the ones who offered up the exclusive contract and EA had the money to buy it. The NFL loves exclusive deals.

But ,just look at the leaps and bounds other sports games have made, which whom all have competition. Also, I believe we would have more than EA and 2k, I bet you Sony would be in the mix as well.
