XBOX 360 USB Storage for original XBOX game saves update

Here is a reply I got on twitter from @XboxSupport:
me @XboxSupport Hello, can I use the new usb support and save an *original xbox* game *save* to a usb drive?
XboxSupport @me The new USB update is only for the 360. ^KS
[not what I asked, so...]
me @XboxSupport What I mean is on my 360, can I play an xbox 1 game, and place a gamesave from the xbox1 game to a usb drive?
XboxSupport @me yes ^KN
[holy ****!!, but...]

Ok so this looks pretty good. Only thing I can't wait to get home from work and test is will the game saves be 'just visible' to us in, say, windows explorer?
If not, they are definitely on the USB drive, encrypted or otherwise in some weird magic Microsoft file systemy way.
So, best case looks like we may be able to save 2k5 files to the usb drive and just straight up open them in an editor on the PC, after wading through the crazy folder name stuff.
Worst case looks like we may have to try out some existing tools (xport 360 typeish stuff) or some hacked/redeveloped versions of these tools to get to what we want.

Can anyone verify this positively or otherwise?

I'll try it myself later.

Re: XBOX 360 USB Storage for original XBOX game saves update

this morning when I got up i moved a NBA 2k9 save to the USB stick and checked out the files on the computer

the 360 created a hidden Xbox360 folder and in it there is Data0 Data1 Data2 files

all the files are encrypted, no way to share those properly

Hmm, so as far as them being in random looking folders, this doesnt look too different from how 2k5 does the UDATA stuff and you have to replace a specific file from an online roster via xport or xplorer 360...

The encryption does worry me.

I'll try with nfl 2k5 tonight and post results, anyone try with nfl already?

no it is very different, xplorer didnt open any of the files either

the only possibility is posting these 3 files and putting them for download and see if they work

Well never mind . Apparently this feature is actually not supported for original XBOX game's saves. (Can't even select storage device from inside 2k5 or copy the game saves using the storage device management stuff in settings).
So, I'm back to playing on my ps2 with action replay... would have been cool to play the xbox version though.
