All I wanna know is if this year the D-pad will be used for something else other than moving... the Dreamcast was like this... you could only use the analog stick to move.

Re: CONTROLLER CONFIGURATION FOR X-BOX==ESPN NFL FOOTBALL

Here is the button layout for the xbox demo. Those 2 screens go by so quick I recorded the demo and paused the screens to get the control layouts and these don't even tell you everything. I also added some stuff thats there but not mentioned. Feel free to add what you know or found and is not posted here.

OFFENSIVE LAYOUT
A = Tap for speed burst, Hold for "The Charge"
Y = Shoulder Charge (Enhanced when "charged up")
B = Spin (Enhanced when "charged up")
X = Dive
Left trigger = left juke (Enhanced when "charged up")
Right triggers = right Juke (Enhanced when "charged up")
Black and White buttons = Stiff Arm (Enhanced when "charged up")
Right analog stick = flip back to do the stop-n-go move.

DEFENSIVE LAYOUT
A = Tap for speed burst, Hold for "The Charge" (after snap)
Y = Defend pass
B = Switch players (after snap. It's the "A" button before the snap)
X = Tackle/Dive (Enhanced when "charged up")
Left trigger = Attempt interception
Right trigger = Block pass
Black button = Linebacker Strafe

while Selecting offensive plays: (note before selecting a formation by pressing "A")
Cycle up and down to change fromation
on some plays you can cycle left or right to change the personnel and alignment of that personnel (called pages)
Y= changes reciever personnel (want your star reciever on the other side use this)
X= changes runningback personnel (want your bigger back in use this)

Before the snap offense:
B= brings up audible window

To flip the play you are running to the other side hit "B" (to bring up the audible window)then click the right analog stick down (note none of your players will move giving away you flipping the play).

Before the snap defense:

move right analog to move defensive line.

Click right analog stick:
Once the adjust Linebackers
again to adust secondary
again to adust defensive line

Passing the ball tips:
Try letting your QB do his drop step. You do this by just snapping the ball and not touching the analog stick. You can either pass the ball or move your QB after this. Usually when your QB is done with his drop step (he'll start boucning in place reading the defense) someone is making their cut and should be open.

Holding the right trigger will make your QB more maneuverable but you'll have to let go of the trigger to pass the ball.

Don't throw into double or triple coverage (it will get picked)
Try throwing to the side with less DBs.
If you see someone blitzing audible into a run (CPU Raiders are good for blitzing on pass plays)
Even in the demo the CPU blitzes on pass plays where you need a lot of yards.

Running the ball tips:
Only thing I can tell you here is follow your blockers.
If your runningback is right behind a blocker if you tap the "Y" for shoulder charge the runningback will push the blocker in the back and help move the defender.
Try to time your moves (spin, juke and shoulder charge)right before impact to have more success.

IMO the best runningback in the demo is Jerome Betis. It's really hard to stop him even for the CPU.

This isn't everything but it is right off the top of my head. I hope this aids you in having more fun with the demo.

Re: CONTROLLER CONFIGURATION FOR X-BOX==ESPN NFL FOOTBALL

Doing a stiff arm is a pain in the butt with the black and white buttons. Seems like the juke should be done with the right analog and the triggers be used for stiff arm.

"B = Switch players (after snap. It's the "A" button before the snap)"

That is the only thing so far that bothers me about the demo, I wish it would either be A or B and just stay that way. Hopefully in the retail version of the game we will have different options/etc.
