What are flag routes?

I have litte knowledge about football. I was reading those ESPN Football Sliders Discussion and I read a lot about those flag route problems. What are they?

A flag route is when the receiver runs up field and then cuts up and towards the sideline. It's essentially the opposite of a post route.

It's called a flag route because the fields used to use little flags in the corners of the endzones instead of the pylons they use now.

The reverse of a post route. Instead of running downfield and in at 45 degrees, you cut outside toward the sidelines.

In reality, you run out 8 yards, look back at the QB and fake a "hands up" motion to get the CB to bite, then dash toward the sideline on a 45 degree out.
