It seems the best way to avoid this problem is for neither person to make substitutions or changes to the default settings.

Also custom playbooks will cause a divergence. In fact, even scrolling through possible playbooks and scrolling though the custom playbook options might cause a divergence as well.

Fireal discussed the Solution in another thread. DO NOT make defensive matchups. If you do, the NEXT game you play will suffer a Divergence. I have been using this solution for about 4 days now, and it works like a charm. The problem is you can get torched if you do not make the matchups. So if you chose to make defensive matchups, make sure you log out of Xbox Live when you are done.
