Yep its down. Just press the button for the back and down, he should block. Although what direction he blocks I dont think you can choose, which you should be able to . Maybe in this yrs game

Yeah it's pull down on the analog stick first then hit the button assigned to the runningback. If you don't know what their button is hit either the left or right tigger depending on if you want to see all the routes everybody run on that play. The running back blocks on the side he starts out on and if you are in the I formation he blocks on the left and the FB blocks the right.

Its not too good of a feature on the game though. More times than not the RB will run into your QB or do something stupid.

Re: Hot route RB to block??

This is very close to an idea I had for NFL2k5. Instead of assigning blocks to some of your offensive players, I suggested a 'Switch to Blocker' option. Basically it would allow the gamer to control ANY player on offense at ANY time. This in turn allows you to switch to, say, the fullback before the snap of the ball and run WITH your team's AI-controlled RB with the ball, blocking upfield for him.

Even if you could assign a block left, block right, block ahead or zone block to a player, that would be cool too. Instead of just having them 'block' generically.

Yeah, I remember you suggesting that. It would be a nice addition to have. If people didn't want to use it, you wouldn't have too, but maybe as the players were moving up to the line-of-scrimmage the user would be allowed to switch men on OFFENSE just as we already can on defense. Then the CPU would snap the ball and run the play. You'd press different buttons for different blocking moves, and
hey! get this, you could even have a "Maximum Blocking" type feature where you can tap the button to jam the player or hold the button to hold onto a player a bit more at the definite risk of being called for holding.

Anytime that you want to get back to the ball carrier, you'd hit another button and automatically switch to the ball carrier, or you can hit a button to switch to the next blocker.

It may sound like a lot of switching, but it really wouldn't be. Seeing that most plays only last a few seconds, you'd more than likely just play one or the other per down, that is, blocker or runner.

You're doing something wrong. Playing some of those guys that think all out blitzing is the way to win, this feature comes in VERY handy. There are other times as well.

Can't say I like that one Vader. No matter which year of which game you're talking about the CPU always does a better job of picking special moves and timing them when running than humans. Humans do a better job of finding holes and manual juking but an average player is usually a MUCH worse runner than the CPU (why this year they usually only run tosses and sweeps). This feature would let them get a great rushing attack despite their lack of skill.
