What were the problems with 2k4 ?

I'm about to start playing 2k4 again after a long break. I didn't play it much the first time around and was just wondering what the final thoughts on the games strengths and weaknesses. Were there any game killers ?

Re: What were the problems with 2k4 ?

A lot of what people think was wrong with 2K4 is mostly their opinion so what they think is wrong maybe right to other people. All the football games are different and if one doesn't do it exactly like the others it maybe considered a problem. I really didn't have any issues with 2K4 myself but again thats just my opinion.

Re: What were the problems with 2k4 ?

To answer your question. I believe the most serious problems with the game were as follows:

1. Stat Tracking. VC/Sega MUST fix this issue. LBs with 200+ tackles per season. Too few WR catches and yards. To few CBs with tackles (related to LBs tackle issue). Too many QBs with 4000+ yards per season
2. CPU FG kicking issue. VC/Sega must fix this too. They must at least try to kick a 30-45 yard field goal every once in a while. Actually they should almost always attempt one unless the wind is heavily agains them. Even then teams still try a FG from the 30. In 2K4 they would almost always punt it.
3. Accelerated clock. Not as serious, but it would enhance the game greatly.
4. Too many fumbles
5. Too many broken tackles by the CPU.

Some of these issues were claimed to have been fixed. We shall see. But these 5 are my five main gripes about the game. I think many would agree to this. I didn't have a problem with the running animation although they could have made it better nor do I have issues with shoe types and diry uniforms. I think these are all insignificant issues relative to the gameplay aspect.

Hope that helps.

Re: What were the problems with 2k4 ?

I will add a few...

Odd height/weight combo's for players in the Draft. Like 5'10 255lb olbs and 6'3 181 pound SS. Not all of them, but enough for concern.

Sad franchise fantasy draft logic. If you draft decently you end up with a young and stacked team.

League rosters/attribute viewing. You can see each team and each teams positions independently, but you can't see a rank of the best RBS to the worst.

Disproportionate ratings for drafted players. You can always get a great center/guard early in the rounds.

#1 and #2 are huge issues in my book. #1, well I'll see it when I see it. But don't hold your breath VC has never gotten stats right.

Re: What were the problems with 2k4 ?

The #1 problem was the poor servers! I have Comcast Cable and at best guess maybe 50% of the games I would play would get disconected or be too laggy to play. Sega and VC need to fix problem this year, no more putting it off!

The only other problem I had, was the poor tackling. I know todays NFL players don't tackle great but they are not that bad.
